    Disco 1 speedometer

Just to update - took the transducer out this evening and discovered that the short square bit that locates in the drive in the transfer box had in fact worn round . There was a tiny bit left square in near the transducer which showed what the rest of it should be like . It was also loose and...

    Disco 1 speedometer

My brother got under the Disco this evening and said all connections etc appeared to be fine - we were hoping for a loose connection or damaged wiring . So maybe it would be worth his while to remove the speedo and check it out . It's not too tricky a job is it - any thing in particurar to...

    Disco 1 speedometer

Thanks for replies . As Discool said its the speedo that's giving trouble and I couldn't find any menton of a speedo cable . There is a transducer it says on the transfer box - I presume it's where the cable used to come from but this device changes the turning movement into an electrical signal...

    Disco 1 speedometer

My brother has a 96 300 Tdi ES manual and the speedo has begun to act up - sometimes doesn't work at all and at other times bounces up and down . Any ideas on where to start looking appreciated .

    Technical HELP needed urgently..Please!!!

If you had no burst pipes etc then the water/coolant must have been forced out of the expansion tank - and it would have taken increased pressure in the cooling system to do this . In your place I would certainly have the head pressure tested before refitting - no point in doing the job twice...

    Radiator Question

I fitted a new radiator - too important an item to take chances with IMHO. Repair has not been an option in my opinion for many years due to the materials used in rads . I think you can get recored rads or have your own recored . And as for Radweld etc I agree completely with mad hat man - I...

    Losing engine coolant problems

Pressure test should have shown up any leak - have you tried putting a plastic bag on the end of the overflow pipe from the expansion tank to see if there is any coolant coming out ; cap could be allowing coolant escape when hot . Any sign of steam/white smoke from exhaust ?

    thermostat-less

Did the head gasket on my sister's Tdi about a year ago . Six months later it began acting up again - much like yours . Eventually took off the head again and found it was cracked - a crack running from where no. 3 heater plug enters combuston chamber . Engineering workshop told me they had...

    my 300tdi keeps cutting out

The spider unit ( so called because it has 8 wires connected to it ) causes problems on the 300 Tdi - either preventing them from starting at random or cutting out , again at random . One of the circuits it controls is the feed to the pump solenoid - no feed means no start or if running engine...

    Radiator Question

My 01 Td5 with 176K on the clock was losing coolant for a while - finally tracked it down to the top corner of the radiator on the passenger side .On the front of the radiator which made it even harder to spot . Only found it having taken off plastic cowling etc - as it was at the top I think...

OD of Td5 spigot bearing ?

Would anyone know the outside diameter of the spigot bearing in an 01 Td5 . I'm changing clutch , flywheel etc but the new spigot bearing just slides in and out of the crankshaft - no sign of interference fit . The end of the crankshaft seems fine and though the old spigot bearing was damaged...

TD5 Power steering pipe replacement ..... DIY or no?

The 2 power steering pipes ( flow and return ) go across under the radiator and are clipped to the crossmember in two places . I would say that to change the pipes you would have to remove the radiator/intercooler assembley as they run in a confined space under the rad . I change my rad...

    TD5 Driveline vibration

I have a 01 Td5 with 176K on the clock and over the past few weeks I occasionally noticed a vibration between 50 - 55 mph . I checked out UJ's . rubber doughnut etc a few times but everything seemed fine . Last week when I started up one morning there was a very noticeable vibration and it could...

    Td5 front crank seal

I'm taking the engine out of my 01 Td5 to renew clutch / rear crank seal etc . I also intended to renew the front crank seal while the engine is out . Looking at Rave I see the torque is 336 ft/lbs - the last time I used this was on the crank pulley of a 5 cyl Transporter and it was really...

Td5 clutch change - is engine out an option ?

Started my Td5 this morning and immediately there was vibration and it was also noticable through the clutch pedal . Went after a few minutes but came back again . In hindsight there was occasional vibration at about 50 mph but I was thinking it was UJ / doughnut etc even though they all checked...

    steering box

I didn't find removing the box too bad but I couldn't put a time on it as I had to leave it twice and come back to it . Removing the drop arm was the worst part ( mine had been leaking slightly for quite a while but was still hard to pull off)and I imagine that a Disco that had been off roaded...

    alarm/ starting problem

I think , but only think , that the alarm stops after a certain length of time and resets itself . Depends on where you are and if it's practical to let it sound for a while because it is very loud . You could give these guys a call depending on where you are in relation to them and maybe they...
