I'm taking the engine out of my 01 Td5 to renew clutch / rear crank seal etc . I also intended to renew the front crank seal while the engine is out .
Looking at Rave I see the torque is 336 ft/lbs - the last time I used this was on the crank pulley of a 5 cyl Transporter and it was really tight . I used a 6 ft bar with a 56lb weight on the end and I was amazed at how tight it was - it needs to be tight as it has a very small key and they often came loose .
Is the Td5 pulley hard to remove and is there any particular reason why it should be so tight - does the timing chain sprocket depend on this ?
The engine has 176K on it so I feel the seal could do with changing .
