thanks for replies. I'm certain that the previous owner has connected the control cables to the wrong places. I think he's put the hot water shut off vavle cable onto the flap controls. Were onto it now. thanks

Bite the bullet and buy a nice new battery, looks like were in for another long hard winter, no good messing around you'll be sorry in the end

If you can find out if the garage fitted a complete full clutch and new thrust bearing. Some crank garages sometimes only put a new plate in there which is almost no use.

Do you use the clutch pedal as a foot rest? This can seriously reduce the life of your clutch and cause damage to the thrust bearing

String, cable ties, silicone, hacksaw and hammer. Also very important, never ever leave home without a major toolkit and big box of spares with you including flask and butties (flask containing stella to numb the shock) when you cant fix it. After the stella you'll think of a way to do it.

Get some old heat bricks out of an old storage heater, they are very high iron content so retain a lot of heat, new ones are only cheap in electrical wholesalers. When we take them out of storage heaters that have been charging the night before we cannot touch them as they are so hot
