looks like the bonnet cable outer retainer and grip ( needed some for mine and couldnt find any ) . Ended up making my own out of 90 degree steel plate and a big block connector

I've done a bit more searching and found this info (link below) I think the part I am after is as you say, the outer cable retainer, it looks as though the same part does the heater control cable on the side of the heater box in the engine bay.

This looks promising but I want to have one in my hand to look at properly. I may just make something myself. Some old motor bikes and scooters have an adjustable cable device, you can cut a small section of ally angle and then drill and tap it to take the adjuster. This would be a really good repair.
