    Defender 200 tdi heavy breathing

You could do with running a leak-down test. Most good garages (diesel specialists even better) will be able to perform one. It will test the leakage from compressed air in the cylinders - one-by-one. You can then determine where the gases are escaping, by listening to air coming from...

No mainbeam or blue light on dash

I hope you're right; after (as good as) passing the mot on Monday I've been itching to get it back and start enjoying it after 18 months of owning it (my first landy) and sorting it all out with an hour here, and a few a week or so later! If it wasn't for the delay on the new water pump arriving...

No mainbeam or blue light on dash

Edited 13/6: It's the switch as you can pull back the stalk and the dash lights up as does the actual main beam. Give the switch cable that isn't getting the juice 12v and it all works as it should. Do you need to remove the steering wheel to remove the whole thing? I got there late and could...

Snorkel. Mud got in. Im baffled.

As fenders chuck up so much water onto the screen when you hit water could it not have come down the snorkel while your mushroom was missing? They finish right next to the top corner of the screen, so it is definitely possible...? Tom

Was the water deep enough to test the seals then?

Very nearly MOT time for my project

Ha ha good plan! I recently changed the oil for one shot and was surprised to find one still leaks more than I'd like. The hand brake drum thing (Damn name escapes me) on the prop is a bit damp too but it doesn't drip.... I expect to find a few niggles when I drive it but up until now I've...

Very nearly MOT time for my project

I have one already, and I'm aware of the checks but wonder where, besides corrosion, they normally slip up on? Tyres good, rod ends good, bearings seem ok, zorst solid and complete and I've done all the welding etc. Will wet swivels be ok if they're not dripping? Cheers Tom

Very nearly MOT time for my project

So my 90, which was once a farm hack is nearly ready for its first MOT in a while; I've not had lots to to do besides the welding to get it to 'phase 1', where I think it stands a good chance of passing it's test, but I'm still aware there is bound to be something! I've done the drop arm...

    intercooler myth needs de-bunking

As above - all good advice. I fitted a front mount intercooler I had made that had four times the surface area compared to the original but only twice the internal volume. My air charge temps dropped from peaks of 55'c to 30'c (summer time with high ambients) with no noticeable increases in...

My afternoon working on the 90 was going so well until i noticed the drop link guts..

I agree to an extent, but I was rushing and the twisting force of a pair of steilsons on the other end of a bar is not a stress the cap and circlip are designed to withstand. Easy saying that now! I know the circlip was seated all the way as i did it on the bench not under her. Cheers Tom

My afternoon working on the 90 was going so well until i noticed the drop link guts..

....on the floor under the ramp! I had done a fair bit of welding, replaced a bump stop and then, while already late for tea by a couple of hours (I was lucky it wasn't in th dog!) I changed a track rod end. I can only assume while wrestling with the rod end I'd put too much stress on the...

    Drop arm ball joint

I had a mare with my drop arm when I did it a year or so ago. I had decided to replace the whole arm so I cut the old one off when it wouldn't budge using all the suggestions on offer, only to struggle with compressing the new assembly like you... In the end I swapped one or two (I forget...

Please help fender on ramp and time running out. quick swivel q

After watching the first video on YouTube about the difference between the tdi and td5 swivel houses (former showing 3 bungs) I knew mine once had ep90 and thus should, like that of the tdi one in the video, have 3 bungs. .... there was no mention of another variant with just sight and drain...
