....on the floor under the ramp!

I had done a fair bit of welding, replaced a bump stop and then, while already late for tea by a couple of hours (I was lucky it wasn't in th dog!) I changed a track rod end. I can only assume while wrestling with the rod end I'd put too much stress on the circlip and burst it off!

Gutted - I only had the rear brakes to look at and I was at 'phase one' and ready for an mot. Almost.

Was I too heavy handed twisting the bar or was something wrong do you think? I had changed the drop arm a year or so ago....

I would say it's lucky it popped out when it did. Shouldn't just drop out like that, no matter what you were doing!

I agree to an extent, but I was rushing and the twisting force of a pair of steilsons on the other end of a bar is not a stress the cap and circlip are designed to withstand. Easy saying that now!

I know the circlip was seated all the way as i did it on the bench not under her.

Cheers

Have to agree - the stress of hitting a good pothole would have done it at 60mph....... lucky break it went on the garage floor! If its any interest my experience would be just replace the whole drop arm with new swivel already fitted, maybe £30 more but 1/10th the time and stress and you know its all spanking new. Get a f-off great splitter to get it off the splines tho.... Good luck, A
