BCU failed need to remove or bypass alarm

Problem may not be the BCU but water in the fuse box. Take the fuse box out under the steerin wheel. Take the back off and you will probably find that the circuit board is corroded. Replace the fuse box and then find out where the water is getting in. I've done the first on mine. Now I've got...

    Water in fuse box

Had a whole series of problems. Indicators not working, central locking, engine not stopping, funny little symbol by the trip meter etc.etc. Put it down to the Body control module. Got a second hand unit. Got it fitted and programmed and then started to get problems again. Finally with a bit of...

    300 tdi lights problem

You'll probably find the connectors on the bulbs have melted. Common problem. You can get replacement connectors from Halfords etc.

    Electrical Interfearance CB and Laptop.

I've had the same issue with mobile phone chargers. Some cause problems and some don't. The inverter route might work. Looks like if its 240v 1.2A then you need a 300w inverter which at 12v in theory is 25 amp. You'll need to go direct to the battery. Cigarette lighter won't handle that...

Petrol in ur diesel - mythbusters time!

The owners handbook for my old Shogun said you could run up to 50% petrol in extremely cold weather to prevent waxing. Never tried it mind you and 50% sounds an awful lot.

    discovery td5 2002 hi lo range jumping/grinding

There is no cable. It's just a mechanical linkage. If you can feel any slop in the transfer box lever then the linkages are probably loose. You might be able to see them from below but I think it's more likely you'll have to remove the central bit of interior that the gear levers go through.

    Can't open the doors!!!

Got the same problems on mine. With mine its a faulty Body Control unit. Degenerated into a whole series of intermittent problems including no indicators, alarm going off at odd times, no central locking, flashing milometer with a funny little symbol next to the trip meter when its playing up...

    Body Control Module replacement

Got to replace the BCM on my Disco 2. I've got a second hand unit and a local specialist to programme it. If I fit the second hand unit without programming it, will the car be driveable or will it be completely dead?

    Binding noise from rear diff

Maybe the belt is one tooth out on the pump, compensated by using all the adjustment on the bolts.

    help! main fuse or what?

You could have trashed the battery completely by shorting it. Try measuring the voltage and then turning things on. It may show 12volts until you put load on it and then drop to next to nothing.

Electrical poltergeist messing with my truck!!!!

Precisely what mine does. Especially when its been left a few days. Usually sorts itself out after a day or two but I've got a replacement BCU to get fitted sometime. One time it did it, the engine wouldn't stop, the electric windows wouldn't work and I couldn't unlock the doors. Was starting to...

    Unleaded in a TD5 Disco

Thats a good idea. Sucking petrol through a mains appliance. Bit early for November 5th isn't it? Most of us will assume it's a joke but there is always someone who will try it.

Disco 2 very heavy clutch is it normal?

I wouldn't say they are that heavy but they are heavier than most ordinary saloon cars. What sort of car are you used to? I switched from an old Shogun to a Frontera, 2 x Disco I's and now a Disco II TD5 and they all felt more or less the same. the girlfriends Hyundai I30 is however much...

    TD5 Fan belt size

Before you go too much further with belts and tensioners, I wuld have a close look at the exhaust manifold gaket. Leaking gasket gives the same screech. Common problem on TD5 & I speak from experience. Changed belt, tensioner and idler before I read about the problem. Typically leaks at the...

    LEZ - Enginme Swap?

You're right. The only diesels that are OK for the LEZ are the TD5's (not early ones) or the Puma. But you would have to register the vehicle as being to the required Euro standard. That sounds like a can of worms. The only tdi that will comply with LEZ is the 110 County Station Wagon. So I...

    Alarm/Fob problem

Just came to replace front wheel bearing on my D2. It's been sitting outside the shop for the last 2 weeks. Tried to unlock but the key fob will not unlock the doors. However, when I try the fob, the interior light comes on as normal. Unlock with the key drivers, door only (and lock). The...

    leaking ACE pipe

Yes, but you'll need to chuck it around a few corners before the system bleeds itself through. Might take a while before the amber light goes out. Other option is to get someone with the right diagnostic gear to get it to go into its self bleed process. Word of warning though. I had a leaking...
