what bigs said, sensor all the way, irrespective of the settling which may be another issue, the uneven heights is a sensor problem. check, remove, clean, replace, adjust, if necessary, renew. great intro too.

we hire a big nitrogen bottle from BOC, no checks or anything, just turn up at the agent, fill out the hire form and drive away with a cylinder, when it's empty, just take it back and exchange for a full one. we pay about £10/month

guessing you have a td4 then ? by the time you have messed about with the egr and cleaned it, it's quicker and more effective to fit the bypass kit from ebay, and it won't clog anymore.

think it was a fault with the felt seal on the window rubber, it either went really hard and scratched the glass (unlikely) or small dirt particles brought down with the rain get trapped in the felt. used to try and clean mine regularly once it started, but it was too late, damage was done.

there's also a number of simpler things, depending on the engine version on the td4 with air con, the pulley can rub on the wheel arch liner and cause a strange noise, one of the engines has a metal heat shield on the exhaust down pipe which can cause a rattling sound
