Collecting D1 this week, very excited

Hi Welcome to the forum(s). You will find plenty of help and information on here mate. Get to know the search functions and you won't go far wrong. Have you had a look at the foam sound deadening stuff under your carpets. It soaks up water from leaks and just speeds up the rust. My D1 had...

    EDC Auto starts quickly

Mine fires into life pretty much instantly in the milder weather, but at 4am in the morning when it's icy and I'm off to work it turns over fairly slowly for a couple of seconds then starts. Saying that I'm assuming it's the battery as it's a halfords 072 and looks pretty old, so am going try...

Replace or just repair these bits of inner arch?

I got a Clarke turbo weld 155t, which has the gas conversion. It's a few years old now, but I've seen it working, and it should do for me as a beginner. Only cost £50 and it came with a few tips, wire and some other bits. Just need some gas, mask, gloves, metal etc. and some sun !!:)

Replace or just repair these bits of inner arch?

Hi SpaceDawg, I'm hoping to get as much of the rust off, next time there's a break in the rain! Got soaked yesterday :) As it's my daily drive and MOT'd til July, I don't want to have it sat in bits for a long time, but want to do a half decent job once I've had a bit of practice. I've...

Replace or just repair these bits of inner arch?

I've never really welded before, but bought myself a mig today from a mate. I want to start thinking about getting to work on the bits of tin worm after I've had some practice. As a starter I want to sort out the inner arches at the front. i pulled some of the plastic arch liner trim clips and...

The benefit of searching these forums!

Guess he was born an engineering hero, and never learnt from anyone. :o Not sure he was having a go, but I was only trying to bring home the fact that there is a wealth of knowledge to tap into on these forums. Bearing in mind the internet kind of took off around 1982, I would only have been...

The benefit of searching these forums!

Ashley, The plastic one just sheared off, after I had finished everything. I got 1/2 bsp brass flanged blanking plugs. Cost £1.48 each. Added an O ring to each to seal them. No leaks yet touch wood. I bought the one on the right as a trial to bleed the system like a radiator, but it...

The benefit of searching these forums!

Changed my timing belt yesterday evening on my 300 tdi Disco. Dropped the rad, for better access and drained the coolant. Everything fine until refilling the coolant. Bloody plastic bleed screw snapped on top of the thermostat housing pouring coolant everywhere. It's 1930 by now, where the hell...

    a few questions

Got to do all my belts on my newly acquired Disco next week. I bought a dayco timing belt kit today from jgs 4x4. Was £50 odd quid, plus got the crank oil seals. IMO it's one of those things you don't want to skimp on. I second the checking of the mounts and crossmember if your door is rubbing...

    Welding advice sought in Essex

Yes I think quotes are the first port of call. Think I've located the source of the leak. Looks like it's where the panels meet under the little gutter. Water drips out from under the rear speakers. Everyone I've spoken to so far has said it doesn't look that bad. It's had previous welding...

    Welding advice sought in Essex

Hi all, Aquired an 1995 auto 300tdi Disco 1 at the weekend. For 18 years old it's mechanically good and took me back down the M1 to home with no problems. Was a business mans vehicle, got a full service history covering up to last year, various invoices etc showing what it's had done to it...

Is my timing out or could my manifold be buggered??

I'll check this out. I'm almost sure the cutting out is due to heat or a possible crack somewhere. Cheers!
