    Just to add to my above post with this method you dont need to hold the fan, just make sure you give a very hard and sharp strike, the chisel will maul the nut a bit but i promise you wont break anything.

    As already stated a long (and sharp) cold chisel will always undo a viscous fan, i have never been beat by one yet and i used to look after a fleet of old shape Trannies and you had to take the fan off to do the timming belts, must have done hundreds.

    I have to say from a mechanics point of view derv pump leaks quite often mean a specialist repair, if you are going to have a go be careful as there are usually springs and the like waiting to sring out from behind any plates or covers you remove.

    I didnt mean it dropped open, I meant it literaly drops open to the floor or the passengers knee's. I didnt know the ram pulled it closed, I think I can vagueally see from the picture how its fixed. I think mines missing a mounting braket.

    We used to have Varta batteries at work for our plant and vans, rubbish in my opnion, we now use Exide and they are much better. Varta just seem to get away with it because of the usual percived German quality.

    Is the wiring for the subwoofer already installed ? As I would like to fit one to 1998 SE it has the CD shuttle in place and the grille at the top of the panel, they seem to be easy to come by.
