36mm might fit better. You can get tools with 36 one end and 32 the other. That will cover most vehicles.

When I first took my vicous fan off I tried for ages with the spanner and sharp crack method. Never worked. Fan kept slipping in the belt no matter what i jammed in there. I eventually got the largest (longest) cold chisel I had and one good chap with a hammer did the trick. Same in reverse for tightening it back up.

As already stated a long (and sharp) cold chisel will always undo a viscous fan, i have never been beat by one yet and i used to look after a fleet of old shape Trannies and you had to take the fan off to do the timming belts, must have done hundreds.

Spanner on, sharp tap always works. Sharp tap with a small hammer is best. Cold chisel works, but a butchers tool.

I've never tried it, but a guy from a LR dealership told me that if you attach a spanner/socket to the belt tensioner, up the tension and whack the coupling nut - it works....

For what its worth, can't see it myself as the viscous coupling isn't held firm by belt tension
