    suspension

Takes some serious force (had to do it recently on my rebuild) to get springs low enough to even get check straps on took a 1.2tonne pallet of compost straight on the back of the chassis. Must say I was somewhat pleased to finish tightening those bolts up! Make sure you are very careful and...

    No Spark - help please

I'm assuming the points and rotor arm are all in a good way? I.e. turning freely. Check point gap - would be surprised if that would completley stop a spark in all fairness, but if they're way out, who knows? Possibly try replacing the condenser? (one of the cheapest options..)Has the rolling...

    Bulkhead for Series 3

Some welds are visible..but they are strong and clean welds. I considered filling over some of mine..but to be honest, I kind of like them. Show that the bulkhead is solid (which it most definately is..) and good for a fair few more years.. I'm sure if you discussed your requirements with him...

    Bulkhead for Series 3

I can highly reccomend Ashtree, sit down when you first hear the price, but well, well worth it. Good workmanship isn't cheap. To put it simply..you get what you pay for. Somethings are not worth skimping on.. Matt

    Series 3 Steering box kit

Hey, Gave my box a complete refurb over the summer..not a bad job really. (Just make sure you grease the bearings enough so they don't fall all over the place.. scratching around finding bearings on a workshop floor at 2am isn't the most glamarous thing to be doing at that time..). Got all my...

    Series 3 Bolts.

Just rebuilt a series 3 88" (just a bit of bodywork left to do) having replaced all nuts and bolts. Used a kit from www.lrfastners.co.uk - really helpful people. I would advise against going down the stainless route for everything. I just used stainless on a nuts and bolts on the chassis -...

    suspension

Could you not try and get aload of weight on the back, get her level with the front and tighten the shackle bolts up? - Not saying this would work...just an idea??

Body / Door seal kit series 3

Hello, Just wandering if anybody knew of such a thing as a complete rubber seal kit for re-attaching the body work / doors on a series 3..I know you can by most seals by the metre, but just to ensure I don't forget any needed, was wandering if there such a thing as a kit? If not (highly...

    throw out bearing

Forgive my bluntness...but if your going to go down the conversion route..then there are just some things you are going to have to spend money on and not 'bodge' - certainly not if you want your pride and joy to last longer than a test drive...clutch's are definately one of these things. Even...

    My axle drain plugs leak.

Remember one of mine was a bit awkward - got a cold chisel approx the right size, lump hammered it in, got an open spanner round the shaft of chisel and gave it some force. Once you've cracked it an 1/8 to a 1/4 of a turn it'll spin easily...wouldnt want to drill mine out..

    Ignition barrel series 3

Currently putting my series 3 back together and was wandering if it is possible to move the ignition barrel / choke pull to the right side of the column as an oppose to the left (essentially spinning the steering lock round half a turn). Physically it fits, but I was wandering if i'll have...

Refitting clutch slave cylinder push rod & plastic clip

Hey, Trying to replace clutch slave cylinder on my series 3 but i'm having trouble clipping the plastic clip on the push rod to the clutch release arm, any ideas / tips? Seems very tricky with the small amount of space available (gearbox & engine are together). Many Thanks, Matt

    Series III brake line layout

Hey, Currently in the process of relaying the brake pipes on my series 3 chassis, was wondering if anybody had any photos to show the correct layout for them? As in where there cleated to the chassis and where they bend around legs etc, not as in where each pipe goes. Only reason I'm worried...

Do full body fastener kits come with labels?

Hey, just actually Got a kit from LR Fastners. There not cheap, but it's already saving me hours.. And I mean hours. In response to the original question, the kit I got from LR Fastners was completely labelled - literally every little bag was labelled within a larger bag - ie a large bag for...

Insurance value of rebuilt Series 3

Hey, As you may know from my numerous questions already posted on here - i'm currently restoring a '77 series 3 2.25ltr petrol. It's got to the point where I need to start shopping around for insurance quotes to know if taking her back up to uni in late september is going to cost more than the...

Mouting Gearbox & Engine to new chassis problems

Just checked a few pics online and that cross member does look one off a series 2, are there any other differences between a series 2 and 3 chassis?

Mouting Gearbox & Engine to new chassis problems

Can't take pics of engine mounts as camera at home, but they all look fine and tight, as should be (compared to photos with engine on old chassis). Are you saying thats a series 2 chassis then? It's not the bottom of the bell housing thats touching - its the part of the bell housing that...

Mouting Gearbox & Engine to new chassis problems

The mounting bracket for the gearbox is missing in the pic, but even when fitted, you can't tighten the nut on the rubber mounting at all - the bell housing is literally resting tight to the chassis - surely the level of noise and vibration will be huge if it remains touching?

Mouting Gearbox & Engine to new chassis problems

Hey, Got to the stage on my rebuild / restoration where I'm pairing the gearbox & engine and mouting to new chassis, only trouble is that the crossmember under the bellhousing (not gearbox crossmember) seems to be stopping the gearbox from meeting its rear mountings - the clutch assembly on...
