Clarion do a repair service and will wire a jack plug in for I pod for £100 all in, I had mine done as it save all the hassle of buggering about with the wiring and buying a new head unit , and the car remains standard , they have an eBay page with address on etc

Have to agree about water pump having just replaced head gaskets I removed pump which wasn't oe and wasn't impressed with the way it was put together , I've now bought an oe pump and new hoses through out plus a new belt .

Your right you get an unlock code when you buy it for all of that particular car ie all p38's there may be a difference between d1 and d2's
