P38A Thinking about buying a P38 - Should a new radiator worry me?

Thanks both for your helpful replies :) It's at a dealer and they're claiming to not know much about it - but are very keen to keep referring me to and marvelling at it's service history! The dealer seems very reputable based on their reviews, but interestingly are saying "due to the age of...

P38A Thinking about buying a P38 - Should a new radiator worry me?

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a 4.6 P38 for weekend use and occassional horsebox towing. I've found a very nice one with impeccable service history at ~125k mls. However, approx 4k miles ago it had a new radiator and new heater matrix. Having read a number of stories that once the 4.6 has...

TD5 Down on Power After Head Gasket Repair

Update.... Fitted the boost pressure gauge today, with a T piece before the waste gate actuator. Under reasonably heavy acceleration it was boosting to pretty much bang on 1 bar. Flooring it pushed the boost the 1.2, which it never exceeded. That seems to be what people are saying it should...

TD5 Down on Power After Head Gasket Repair

Thanks for all the help - my Amazon delivery with the pressure gauge got delayed but should be here tomorrow. I'll get a boost reading over the weekend and try and check the timing. Failing that I'll see if I can get a proper diagnostic on a Nanocom or similar

TD5 Down on Power After Head Gasket Repair

I would tend to agree lynall.... However having had the car for a total of 7 weeks including the original head gasket fix, the garage were at a loss and said they didn't know what else to try. Short of a new ECU which they wanted about 1500 quid fitted. After 7 weeks I just wanted the car back...

TD5 Down on Power After Head Gasket Repair

Hi, I hope someone might be able to give me a few pointers or know what might be the cause for my Disco's sudden loss of power. I've a 2002 (pre-facelift) TD5 disco auto which lost coolant and overheated, resulting in the head gasket failing. It's covered 125,000 miles. I stopped the engine...

TDV8 - stalled, 2xnew turbo fitted, engine siezed immediately in garage, my bad luck apparantly

Hello, Please can someone shed some advice on how I should or can proceed here. I have a 2006 L322 range rover 3.6 TDV8 which just stalled on me about 20 seconds after start one morning. I was idling waiting to pull out of a roadside lay-by. There was no misfiring beforehand, just a second...

Battery Drain - Fan keeps running and running... Not FSR

I'm pretty convinced the issue is something to do with the battery constantly being flat due to the constantly running fan. There were no problems before this started. Do you have any ideas for me to get stuck into at the weekend? Is there a particular relay I should be looking for or wiring...

Battery Drain - Fan keeps running and running... Not FSR

Thanks Saint.V8 -- I'm pretty sure it's the cabin fan as it's loud from within the dash but it sounds like when you take the key out it shuts the vents but the fan keeps running as no air comes out but it's pretty loud. If I remove the end 40A fuse in the glove box fuse box, this causes the...

Battery Drain - Fan keeps running and running... Not FSR

Hi I have a 2006 RR L322. I have replaced the battery and fitted a new FSR (2 of them). When the engine is turned off the vents close down but there is a fan still running. It carries on running until the battery is flat -- literally to the point where the key fob won't even unlock the...

    Progressively heavy steering

Hi, The steering has been getting slightly heavier and heavier in my D2 recently on cornering. However over the last few days it's got much worse, to the extent I really need both hands to force the wheel round roundabouts; and the wheel doesn't automatically return to straight any more when...

    Improving fuel consumption

Hi, Is there anything I can do to improve the fuel consumption of my '02 TD5 auto? It's averaging about 18mpg at the moment (~320 miles from full to light on), I'm sure it should be doing at least low 20s. Its had new fuel and air filters but judging by what mpg others on this forum say they...

    Running with little/no coolant

Hi, I had a coolant hose split before which resulted in the coolant leaking out quite fast. I thought I would make it home (about 12 miles, 8 of which is motorway) so filled the tank up and set on my way. Got home fine, although the engine was smelling very very hot and there was no coolant...

    300 TDI Immobiliser problems?

Mine used to do that if I drove over a big rut too quickly. It also disables the central locking system for a while. I believe the sensor can be disconnected (back right hand side of engine bay). Although there's obviously safety implications in doing that.

    Strange Noise after starting

Yeah mine does that. It's the ABS system doing a self test. You'll notice it does constantly whilst the ABS / EBD / HDC is active as well.

Trying to start an auto TD5 in drive

With all the lights and bongs a TD5 makes couldn't they have made it do something when you try and start it in gear?! Was in a hurry earlier and must have forgotten to place it in park before I got out, thus leaving it in drive. When I got back and turned the key it did nothing! All the...

    A couple of sub questions

I had some pretty big headaches getting the rear sub working in my 300tdi after I upgraded the old Clarion unit to the Phillips CD changer model. The original wiring in my 300 had a dedicated ISO plug for the sub with no other wires. It only had red and black. From your pictures you seem to...

Best way to shut down an uncontrollably revving engine

Just wondering a) if it's possible and b) whats the best way in a manual/auto to stop/stall an over revving engine feeding on its own oil? Would you be able to stall the engine by ramming it into 5th and stamping on the brakes? On an auto could you try and block the exhaust pipe with your foot...

    2003 Discovery Td5, Poor starting!?

My guess was that the immobiliser might not be allowing the fuel pump to start. Next time yours does it let it stand for about 30 seconds before trying to restart. If it bursts back into life straight away (no more cranking than usual) then I would guess it is the same problem. Keep me posted...
