    Quickie alternator question

If I may hijack the thread, I also have a question about my alternator and how best to test it. The car is a TD5 auto and when I'm driving it's fine, the battery works without a problem but when my foot is off the accelerator the red light comes on the dashboard, not all of the time but quite a...

    To use lacquer or not..

Once I've rubbed the scratch back to it's original state should I go over the rest of the car with something lighter like G10?

    To use lacquer or not..

I've just bought a compressor but it's all packed away becuse we're in the middle of moving so I'll have to stay with the tins for now but you're right they do spit a bit. What's the best way of getting the paint work nice and smooth before I use the spray lacquer? I'll put up another pick of...

    To use lacquer or not..

Hmmm, okay I'll give it another lick with the touch up pen and this time NOT rub it down with 2000 grit

    To use lacquer or not..

The bumper/ A frame is off the car at the moment. I've repaired the crack (with fibreglass at the back) filled the front with a special compound for bumpers (???), filled the remaining scratches with filler and have now sprayed the bumper area twice with a cracking bumper paint. Wasn't cheap but...

    To use lacquer or not..

The colour is Java black (LR: 005714) so not metalic. The bit with the spray can is just below the front bumper, connected to the A frame.

    To use lacquer or not..

Hi, so let's see if I've got this right. Paint the key scratch with the touch up pen base coat until I can't see the primer anymore (sand down between coats with 2000 grit), clean area, use touch up laquer pen, wait a few days, use G3 compound on painted area, (maybe G10 as well) then a decent...

EZ Chill for a 300 TDI

Hmm, hard to say. Something's coming out but not a lot. Took it to an independant Landy garage to ask to check it out for me expecting to pay around £60 or £70 and got a mouthfull of abuse and along the lines of £110, so I thought bugger you I'll have a go myself. Is it normal to pay over £100...

    To use lacquer or not..

Hello all, I've just filled a loooooonnnnngggg key scratch on my Black disco with a touch up pen, sanded it down with 2000 grit paper and rubbed it with G3 compound. At the same time I fixed up the front bumper/A frame ( the shiny fibre glass panels) with a touch up spray can also from Landrover...

EZ Chill for a 300 TDI

Hi guys, my Disco TDI (300, 1998) gives a very poor output when the air conditioning is on, nowhere as good as my 2002 TD5. I've been reading up on it and it seems that either I can go somewhere like KWIKFIT and spend £70 or buy some EZ Chill at Halfords for £45 and fill it myself as it fits the...

Rear wiper on a TDI ???

Hi guys, I took out the wiper motor on my old 1998 Disco TDI (300) as it was making one hell of a racket when switched on (sort of ginding noise?). Took out the motor, cleaned and greased the spindle and "Hey Presto" it seem to be slightly more quieter. Problem is putting on the wiper blade, I...

Anyone with a TD5 living in Herts or Essex?

Hi all, I would like to try my MAF (Mass air flow meter) in another Disco to see whether it works or not before coughing up another £100 on a new one. I live in Hertford and can pop by evenings or weekend, shouldn't take up much time either. Please PM me. Ta' Al

    Aggghhhhh damn MAF!

Unfortunately we're in the process of moving and most of my stuff is now in boxes and it'll take an eternity to find my Rave CD. Any chance of a screen grab of the right page or is it online somewhere? I tried disconnecting the MAF last night and the "fan noise" lasted at least 4 or 5 minutes...

T cutting the car - help?

By the way, I spotted a couple of stone chips on the bonnet which needs a spot of touch up paint, how long should I wait for it to be safely dry before I start compounding?

T cutting the car - help?

So here's the stuff I'm using, G3 then another go with some G10. I seem to have some "Black Top" hand glaze and a 5l tind of hand glaze...can't remember when I got all this stuff and which would be better to use. How about my mops then the one on the left is super soft so I reckon it'd do for...

T cutting the car - help?

Great guys, thanks for your advice, I'll tackle it this weekend. Step 1: wash the car Step 2: squirt blobs of G3 Compound over car and using a white mop head use buffer (on a low speed) over car with someone spraying water at the same time. Step 3: wash car again buy a black mop (softer) and...

    Aggghhhhh damn MAF!

I changed the wiring loom about six months ago, 2 x wastegate modulators, and a MAF about a year ago. I think I'll hunt down these electrical sensors you mention and unplug them and see if it helps when I pop them back in. Is it obvious where they are? Cheers

T cutting the car - help?

Hi guys, quite some time ago now some little buggers keyed my black Landy - side panel and bonnet. It went down to the primer, so over the last couple of weeks I've been going over the scratches with a fine brush and a black paint I bought from Land Rover and once dry (leaving 48 hours to dry)...
