just bought a td4 drives like a snail

Another vote for the MAF, they are a known failure point on the M47 engine. They fail over time and oncec 'dead' don't give the ECU the correct data on air flow, so the fueling is done badly. Once you disconnect it the ECU assumes a default mode and fuels for 'normal' air flow. For...

    bloody w/mirrors

Pull the plastic trim off the inside of the door, be careful, don't break it, then undo the nuts holding the mirror on. After that is depends on what's wrong with them. I 'fixed' the driver's door one on my wife's just by manually cycling the thing, the passenger door one is toally...

Hello, looking for my 1st 4x4

Tis the wife's I'm just the ballast / mechanic :) So, you reckon a P38 is a reasonable motor then? I've spotted a couple of diesel ones about around me and was tempted until I read some of the negative comments about them on here :)

    dreaded clutch slip!

No worries, two things you are guaranteed of on here is support, and **** taking, not necessarily always in that order mind you ;) :) When you cost up the parts make sure you inlcude the cylinder that is inside the gear box, they have been known to fail, and taking the box back off in 6...

Newbie would like to say hello and get some advice..

Before you rip the EGR out and replace it, take out, clean it and try the car with then. I clean the EGRs out on my car and wife's Freelander once a year. The PCV is important, I've heard of folk thinking they'd blown the engine due to it becoming blocked!!!

    dreaded clutch slip!

The hydraulics wont cause the clutch to slip, unless they are leaking onto the friction plate (not something I've heard of before), they would stop the clutch from releasing. Working under the car is a pain, but doable, take a look at Hippo Ramps TM Hippo ;) which make it alot easier, could...

    Dremel/Rotary Tool Advice

Not being funny, but do a search, there is a thread in here somewhere with Dremel in it and the actual tool of choice for Landy Zoners, can't rememberr what the landy zone tool is (it's Friday night, I might be on my second beer already ;) ) but it appears to be able to eat Dremeal for breakfast :)

    Freelander 1 ird box

Unless the VCU you are buying is a recon unit, get it reconditioned before putting it on, it's worth it compared to the hassle a knackered one can cause :) Bell is tops, we used them, turned the thing around inside a week and explained how it all worked to my missus so she understood it...

    wont start.....the sequel...

Beware of them changing expensive bits first, this is a 'favourite' with Rover dealers when working on the M47 in the Rover 75. More than one R75 owner has had a none working vehicle returned to them with a bill for a couple of 1,000 pounds!!! As the others have suggested, make sure the...

    Freelander 1 ird box

Why? Have you bought a Freelander without a drive train? If so, you're not the first, we made that mistake a few months back when the wife bought one very cheap Td4 by auction :( Dunno how to check it but have a 'bump' to keep you up the page :) You will be able to buy the drive train...

Should I risk buying an older TD4

Personally, I'd go for the first one, the heated leather seats will be worth it come winter. As to the 'we buy any car' offer, he'll lose another £200 quid when he takes it to them for the final offer, so it could be worth being 'nasty' and offering £1,800 in pound notes. With any of them...

    Fuel PRICE RISE

Use this link if you want to have the highest impact. It will allow you to contact your MP by email / FAX whatever they accept directly. Lobbyists reckon that a little personal effort (as suggested on the OP's link), rather than copy pasting a message, will have far more impact. I also...

    build from bits? do-able?

Never built / rebuilt anything bigger than a mini myself, so all credit to them :) Another vote for getting a complete(ish) starter vehicle, it's amazing how the little bits that you find you need add up in cost if you're trying to build from scratch, even buying the bits second hand.

Should I risk buying an older TD4

From what I've seen on here, and my experiencec since the wife bought a Td4, plus 4 years of owning a Rover 75 with the M47 engine in it: - VCU change at around 70k, or make sure it reverses around a tight corner without much throttle. MAF, these tend to go at around 70k and will knacker the...

Anyone know a good Landy club to join.....

:( I ought to take a fence at that ^^ :D Or, I could comment on how much betterererer Fls are compared to 'real' Land Rovers; reliability, comfort, economy exceterererer :o but then you'd go read my other posts and find out I'm telling fibs with regards to the reliability bit, well, as...

    re wire question

As long as they only need 12 volts it would be possible, however, wiring the rear window glass direct might not be a good idea, when you use the door hendle the window drops slightly to protect the glass, then goes back up when the door is shut, to seal the door. The washers and heated rear...

Hello, looking for my 1st 4x4

Freelander Td4 in the family here. Don't get me wrong, it has its problems, but they are all manageable or repairable by a half competent home mechanic (me in our case). With the P38 you HAVE to own a laptop with the right software on it if you want a fighting chance of fixing the problems...

Hello, looking for my 1st 4x4

I asked about a P38 on here a while back, along the lines of 'is there one with fewer problems?' The anwer wasn't encouraging, 'none of them work right'..... That ^^ might be a disgruntled Disco owner mind you, they get upset that their cars don't come with any mod cons, like butlers ;)

Biodiesel- Is anyone processing their own ??

It's not brains that got him into trouble, it was lack of the rarest substance on earth, common sense :) I'm reading stuff most nights about filtering and brewing, so far I'm happy with the concept of filtering the stuff and using it as a mix with diesel and / or a little petrol, wen I've read...
