So I finally have my P38...

99/V, 85k miles, done a couple of hundred miles and so far so good. Drives fantastically, and looks great. One thing I noticed at the weekend tho, overnight the rear suspension lowered itself to park height whilst the front stayed up, I suspected an air leak to the rear, but since it hasn't...

Dash milometer LED/lighting & Coolant overflow pipe

Hi All What could be the cause of the milometer / LED dash display on a RR not being lit up to one side, one I'm looking at is quite dull to the left. Bulb? If so difficult to fix? Minor it seems unless there's a more fundamental reason its not working correctly. Also, where is the coolant...

new owner of a 2000 range rover 4.6 hse what can go wrong

All those that listed their probs, do you have a 99 model onwards? One thing I have noticed in here, is that alot of the probs are 94-98 cars. Changes were made in 99... Is the later model engine more reliable? To be honest, I was so put off buy all the potential problems I backed out of a...

    What's the value?

Not mine, it was one I was looking to buy. Its been sold now anyway, for less than I was willing to pay, not by much tho. 99 onwards seem to be worth a bit more than 96-98's, when I say a bit, there's quite a jump, any reason for this. Seen 2000/01 Vogues for £6-8k, seems very pricey in this...

I notice a difference visually on pre 99 models

to 99 onwards when looking in the engine bay. On the earlier models, the oil filler is on the right it seems, where as I seem to recall its on the left when looking at later models. What's the difference in the engines if so. I can see the obvious difference on the big square block v the alloy...

    P38 99 onwards facelift models...

So for reliability, across the range and years, they are all about as desireable as having a name like Hugh Janus?

Air suspension controls and flashing led

Guys Is the led next to the EAS controls meant to flash? Is this an indication of the fact it's just raising the car or levelling out? The EAS seems to work fine on the car I was looking at... just havent noticed it on others.

Do P38's even have head gaskets?

I found this interesting thread for P38 water loss... looks like it could be many reasons, but combined with the creamy oil filler cap on this particular one, slipped liner / HGF is a concern. Anyway it's going in for a block test, will that also identify slipped liner as well as HGF? p38...

Do P38's even have head gaskets?

gah more info thats v helpful and causes more confusion lol... only time would tell where the water is coming from. The condensation now sounds as if its a non issue, and a little creamy is perfectly acceptable. Water loss pfff

Do P38's even have head gaskets?

I must admit I didnt check the drivers footwell for damp, the car steamed up a bit inside tho whilst warming up! The pressure test is doable, but the service engineer at Land Rover's comments suggests that condensation in the filler cap is not right, but he didnt ask anything about year/model...

Do P38's even have head gaskets?

I've just spoke to a main dealer servicing department who say there should be NO evidence of water, condensation or creamy oil... think that wraps up another saga for me on the road to P38 ownership :-)
