Your talking about MY models, well actually no! They are the same I'm afraid.

Most problems have been updated after the last P38's rolled off the production line.

For example, the latch and the loom from the door to the security system has been changed, the RF receiver has also been changed 3 times.

All of which were defects in the original design by LR which was corrected by BMW afterwards.

If your in for a Range Rover you need to look at L322's from 2004 onwards for more reliability.

nop there all the same. Just replaced x4 air bags! fixed the water leak (valley gasket) and now have the HEVAC error with the offside fan blower. :)

I had a mondeo courtesy car and after getting back in to the RR, realised how good the car actually is, so it's staying for a while.

The 99> cars are a higher spec but not sure what the Thor/Gems engine differences are?

So for reliability, across the range and years, they are all about as desireable as having a name like Hugh Janus?

For me, its because my P38 is 12 years old and is now like everyone else, is now seeing the part failures occur and we are paying for it.

Just had the latch and loom fixed for a cool £900 odd. Compressor £400, RF receiver £140, Exhaust £600, new battery £100, 120amp alternator £150.

And the list continues....if the car was 1-5 years old, most of us would be having a whale of time.

The later 99 on cars ought to be better just by being younger, but its not always the case. The only worse thing about the later ones that springs to mind is that the ABS ecu's can die, unlike the early ones which I've never had fail.
