    buying advice please

Make sure the rear tyres are the newest aka deepest tread... Facelift models have a better gearbox ratios which took some stress off the VCU. My VCU had done 140,000miles when I changed it and that was only done as I felt it was prudent to :)

    Trailer flasher relay

I just fitted a 4 way relay to mine and it works as it should, that is with a trailer connected the trailer light illumimnates on the dash and a beeper sounds in rear luggage space in time with the flasher. Basically it's reminding me that I have a fook-orf caravan on my ass! :D

Hi, old creaky could do with some help please!

Welcome Jo, if you are falling to bits that badly, maybe a Disco with seat raise and lowering would have been better. However I also love the Freelander so perhaps you could add some physio padding to the seat for that extra support you need.

    FBH Fuel burning Heater diags...

Thermostat I think is bolted to radiator so that it turns off FBH when up to temp. Look at Fuses F4 and F5 in the engine bay fuse box. It's noted as being included with Oil cooler when F4 blown, but I found F4 was intact and F5 blown instead...... You might be able to get at Thermostat by...

When we talk about the brake 'switch' I always assume its the little plastic L shaped piece that operates the brake light as opposed to the mechanical application of brakes. The 'gas' pedal switch I thought was a 'fly-by-wire' unit to the ECU for fuel delivery signal.

    HDC light and F4

The 3rd pic you are talking about shows the base of the L - shaped old switch and this is what we are talking about as the one that pops/snaps out. This switch is what operates the brake lights and HDC/TC sensing of brake pedal operation. I can't remember the old switch set up but I do know that...
