Engine Management Light With Exclamation Mark ON no reading from Computer

Hi guys n girls, I have an issue whereby my Freelander 1 2003 shredded an by auxiliary belt so I stopped straight away after the rattling pigeons under the bonnet alerted me to the fault, I replaced the belts, one small belt and one that was longer than my grannies old stockings and I now have the Engine management light with an exclamation mark in it lit on my dashboard, the other engine management light is not lit and there are no codes to read in the computer, however the car is not running correctly, it’s like limp mode but not quite, it revs to 5500 rpm whilst standing but only get up to speed after a while at feathering the throttle pedal gently, it still does 70mph but uses loads of fuel and is really sad going uphill, it’s like it has no compression, not enough fuel or something similar. The turbo is still going, it has had a reconditioned high pressure pump, a second fuel pressure sensor fitted and a crank and cam shaft sensor (new) fitted recently as well as the rear wheel arch pump and filter renewed, any ideas as I’m out of them totally this time, can’t understand why no computer read out, if I rev or drive to high revs it tries to work, the light goes out but I comes in again after a second or two, moving or standstill. HEEEEELP PLEASE xxx

How does it start, has the crank time changed?
Did it happen straight after the belt fail? Or is it an issue that caused the belt fail?

Thanks for the reply, smokes, alway has white on startup but gone in two seconds, it does need a breather filter and air filter, crank time has changed from almost instant to about two seconds, the belts were on the car when I got it so They were very old, it shredded 2 of the 5 ribs but continued driving in almost limp mode as soon as it happened, it’s a freelander 1 and there are two engine management lights, one that throws the computer faults with no exclamation mark in it and the second is exactly the same shape but has an exclamation mark in it, it is this one (with the exclamation mark) that is lit and they are both orange. Today it has started to make a knocking noise on each turn over on tick over 7-8000rpm so I guess something is about to give up (not me I hasten to add), water pump, alternator, high pressure pump (which has been replaced with a scrap yard one, however I did service it and replaced all rubbers and internal gaskets 4000 miles ago as well as the low pressure fuel pump and filter (new ones) at the same time this gives 35.2psi on the for at tick over using obdii diag, which I did think should be higher at 41-42psi but no obdii faults for low pressure showing at all, Damn confusing German engine when it goes wrong but fabulous when it’s working, this car is so much fun to drive I’m never selling it., any closer for you or do you need more info and if anyone got this far reading I’m very grateful

It sounds poss loss of boost pressure, could be split hose or vacuum actuator circuit.
best person for help is @Nodge68 who can assist with many common failure points.
White smoke on startup is unburnt diesel, which could be just a glowplug failed.
Breather filter is quite important and often overlooked. When it clogs it allows a build up of crankcase pressure that will find its way out somehow, often with some oil and seals.

The low pressure fuel pump should give around 350 kPa, which is about 50 PSI.
Running with an under pressure low pressure fuel pump will put the ! light on, and seriously limit engine power.

Hi and thanks for the info, is the low pressure fuel pump the one in the rest wheel arch as this has been replaced and also would put the other engine management light on not the one with the exclamation mark in it ( I think that’s right but am open to correction), have replaced all pipes on booster side to lower vacuum and turbo filter with new and replaced air, breather and turbo filters, still no power.

Better late than never I guess, just so busy, nothing on the computer still, obd says no faults pending or stored.

If you've replaced the low pressure pump, then you need to be looking at what pressure is being delivered using the live engine data.
Low pressure on the low pressure pump will put that light on.;)

When I put the live data on there are two readings for the frp one says between 35-50 when revving but the other stays at ZERO, I think you are on to something, I’ll get another new pump and a filter for the rear wheel arch if that is the one you mean, thanks for the quick reply and your knowledge

Ok I replaced the little pump and the big pump as well as the filter in the rear wheel arch and have the same results, I also replaced all the small vacuum pipes running to and from the turbo booster and vacuum pump at the rear lower engine (Bitch to get to) but all replaced and same results too, hmm I’m stuck now guys, any other ideas. Sometimes when I’m doing about 60mph the light goes off and I loose power completely like it’s trying to work but it judders and light comes on again, it could be electrical, could be a split pipe, low pressure on a pump somewhere, I’m screwed now, as long as it carries on as it is I guess I should be happy for £500
 
More diagnostic information is needed. What pressure is the low and high pressure pumps are giving.
I can't understand why the HP pump was replaced initially? How do you know the second hand pump you fitted wasn't faulty?
Swapping lots of parts randomly can get you deeper into trouble, as you can unknowingly install another fault.
My advice is to put everything back to how it was before the belt failed.

You really should be asking for help in the Freelander subsection, which gets much more traffic than this section.
