We used to fill the pump with oil during rebuilding, @Saint.V8 had an oil pressure problem,I'm sure there's a write up in the Technical archive , turned out to be the O ring on the oil pickup pipe if memory serves me correctly;)
Am I ever not going to be reminded of this dark moment??? ;)

Yes, the oil pressure problem was solved by using the correct O Ring on the pick up pipe....and it wsa one thing I replaced (but not with an OEM O Ring) so considered that not to be the issue.....low and behold @Grrrrrr and his brother figured that one out once i had decided it had served its purpose to me!

Yep, usual method is to pack the pump with vaseline (or other such petroleum jelly)

I never said nuffin.

At least you didn't steam clean your #4 injector with all its delicate electrickery ...

All I know is I had way better mileage in my ‘98 Disco 1 Gems (18-21mpg) compared to my now ‘01 Disco 2 Thor (12-14mpg). Ugh .

In theory yes you need the front cover off of the old motor, essentially a 4.6 is near identical to a 3.5 save the bore/stroke.

As for the fasteners the Thor engines have Metric heads with imperial threads,

Gotta love it.

As for priming the pump, best use Vaseline, but a new tub you don't want hairs or smeg in your mota!! :D
