Hi,

Not sure how but when I removed the oil filler tube whilst changing valve cover gasket the plastic thread is damaged and won't screw back in. Engine is a V8 Thor. My question is do I actually need the tube as they seem expensive for very little benefit, or is there an oil cap that will screw in as on most engines and do the job?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

You do need it, they can be a right pain to screw back in I find they try to cross thread, but with some perseverance it usually goes back in.

If a replacement is needed the aluminium tube and cap can be fitted from a RRC ebay usually has a few. :)

Thanks @Henry_b . Unfortunately the thread is completely ruined so defo need a new one. Do you know why a simple cap wouldn't work ?

Is it the plastic thread, or valve cover that's damaged ?

On my GEMS, I used thread lock on the tube, and make sure cap is not over tightened.

From experience the baffle plate in the rocker cover prevents a standard cap being used, and a lack of space ;) :)

It's had it I'm afraid. No idea how it happened though. It's been on and off a few times for oil changes over time as it loosened before the cap though can't see how it would cause this. Anyway a new one on order and the valve cover thread looks fine :)
