I have always been in to my car stereos, I like to be able to listen to music above the sound of the engine.
Looking around the Freelander I was struggling to see what could be done as the doors looked to be a bit of a challenge. (3 door Facelift).
First thing I did was strip the door cards off and have a look at what I was dealing with, 6.5" at the top and a tweeter, sound wise appalling. Time to look outside the box, I had a set of 3 way Focal AS3 3 way components that I briefly had in my last car that I wanted to fit, these consist of a 6.5" woofer an 80mm mid range and a separate tweeter.
Woofer needed to go in the bottom of the door but due to the pocket and solid metal behind this seemed out of the question, so I have gone all Blue Peter on it. MDF, foam, filler and a great deal of patience I decided to have a go at building my own door pods. This is what I have come up with.
I will get some more images of them fitted tomorrow once it is light again, but these are in the bottom of the door, the 80mm mids are in the normal speaker location in custom built adaptors and the tweeters are in the stock position. Doors have all had sound deadening fitted to try and stop the rattles.
