Hi, i have Freelander 1 facelift model from year 2004. its 1.8 petrol.. and i'm wondering what is the purpose of the electric box just above the break fluid reservoir? i dont have anything connected to it for now because i noticed that the cable going there has been burned from the connector end, its a wide and flat cable going in, and almost seems like a plastick tube that comes out?

That's something aftermarket, not something LR fitted. The wiring isn't up to LR standards, so definitely something aftermarket.

Maybe Google any writing on the case to see if anything comes up?

I'm thinking it could be aftermarket cruise control. Does it have cruise control controls fitted?

I tried to Google the writing on the box and it did gave me cruise control boxes,so that must be it. But I don't have cruise control on the steering wheel

Pretty sure cruise control wasn't an option on the K Series - so it won't have had buttons for it on the steering wheel.

Have you got any non-standard buttons that you don't know what their function is/was - or signs that some were installed?

I suppose an option would be to install a TD4/V6 steering wheel with buttons and cobble them to the box.

Can you trace that larger black cable? It looks like a control cable and I wonder whether it is (or was) connected to the throttle body somewhere?

That's why I thought it's a CC add-on. It's a bowden cable, which would pull the throttle independently of the accelerator pedal
