Hi all, so here goes my restoration of a 4l v8 disco....Auto
First problem....
Head gasket has been done and water pump changed by previous owner (Not confident in skills) .. got it home to Scotland.. didn’t go over 2000rpm the whole way, I stopped for a cup of tea around Preston and it wouldn’t start.. smelled a little overheated but temp gauge sat rock solid on half way the whole journey, water level not dropped nor overflow boiling..
I have a series of lights on the dash, engine management flashing orange, green mode and sport lights flashing, gear indicator lights by the lever and on the lcd display flashing...
Not plugged it in yet, just looking For a little advice on what it may be before I start digging in...
Added a picture below to show what’s lit up

Do we have a decent mechanic on tap near us just in case lol? Preferably with a diagnostic reader for a v8...

Ive never had a v8 as its 15 miles to the nearest petrol station, I run 300tdi's atm I have a small unit & normally just do
my own landy repairs, ive not long sold a nanocom diagnostic which would have been perfect for your disco.

Were all the lights on when you bought it or did they come on when you were coming home.

They came on on the way home, seller seems to think it may be the crank position sensor but I’m not confident in his overall ability..
He’s a breaker in wales not a mechanic..

Amazed you had to go all the way to Wales to find one. Seem to see loads for sale in Scotland. But then maybe Haggis bashers prefer the smell of DERV.
Me, I swing both ways. (No jokes you bas tards!) So far the score is Diesel-two, peteroil-one!
(Hiya Kev Mate, doin OK?)
Cheers
Stan

Hey Stan,
Good to hear from you.
Was after a v8 specifically and couldn’t find one up here too tight to pay for petrol... lol

I didn't dare say that and being a Yorkshire man who keeps his money low in his pockets, I would be too big a target!
I also waited ages for an LPG V8 manual.
Got one now, just can't get a cert ticket for the lpg without a bit of work for which I haven't got time at the mo. D1 by the way.
But it does go like fu ck which is what I really wanted! (And kevstar knows his stuff, by the way)!;)
Enjoy!:)

Welcome to the forum fellow V8 owner!
Did it start back up today? It could be the crank position sensor but...
First off, get hold of Land Rover specific diagnostic tester to check the fault codes. Post them all here.
Second, check your standing battery voltage is @ 12.6VDC and check all over your battery connections are tight and have no corrosion.

The thing to remember with these V8s is to not to go by the temp gauge. If the needle even starts to move 1mm upward from the middle position to hot, you are already screwed and the engine is toast from overheating. It's best to invest in an UltraGuage unit to monitor engine temps and other systems.

We have a big palm thing in a sort of suntrap in part of the garden, but no coconuts! (We used to have a pampas I confess.)
But in France we have a whole row of the things! Wifey planted them thinking nothing would attack them, then last year we discoverd the donkeys in the next field got so hungry they pushed the top of the fence over to get at their heads! Can't believe they found anything to eat on them!
Told the idiot who owns them and he moved em. After putting an electric fence up.
