Hi - very new to all of this so apologies if its an obvious question!
It's a two thumb job to push the button down to take the hand break off - not ideal! - I've had a play to see if there's a trick to it e.g. pull further back before pressing, not putting it on as much etc etc but no luck so far.

Is there a trick to it?

Will tightening / loosening the hand break help - I have a Haynes book and have looked up advice on how to do this in the forums here etc but want sure if this would help.

Thank you!

button, pivots and rods etc probably just need a clean up and lubing

Get underneath and belt holy hell out of everything. He's being a bad boy and deserves it.
Other than that a wire brush and oil can might ease things. That is if the ratchet isn't a bit cabbaged.

Strip, clean and lube. I had mine seize completely once but it came good with a bit of TLC and some grease.

Thanks for all the help,
WD40 on the button's spring seem to have done the trick - I can now release the hand break with one thumb - its hard work but do-able! Hoping to get a proper strip, clean and grease done as soon as I gather my confidence!

(Sorry can't resist - bit of the old obessive compulsive breaking on through)

Nice descriptive spelling mistake - the hand brakes do indeed seem to want to break your hands when then they're like that!

Errr (a rather pedantic) welcome to the forum from me...
