Bad luck buddy but discs do wear out I had to change mine after 15 years 
seriously they do wear quicker now days but the brakes work better

had a m8 used his freelander to tow a small boat used to go through a set of brake discs and drums once a year salt water turned them to scrap

scored/ pitted/ badly corroded discs can fail at least ive had a car fail on corroded discs in the past

Just checked today's mot iv done 6.5k since last year seeing as I do 30k per year on my bike that's not to bad

My MOT man tried that one many years ago. He said all discs have a wear tolerance dictated by the car manufacturer and my discs had reached the specified thickness.
I promised him I would not use them any more until replaced and he gave me the ticket. Told me to pop back the following week and he would bang a couple on for me. I think they were only £15 a side plus labor. Cant even remember what the car was now.

For Land Rovers which have a RAVE online manual, the minimum thickness figure is given in it. Unfortunately, not all Land Rovers, particularly the newer ones have RAVE, including the Fl2.
I didn't think that getting a micrometer out to check the disc thickness was part of the MoT, unless the lip on the edge was so large as to be noticeable and indicative of worn out discs.

Its what they look out for. If the lip is a big un you better take a caliper with you to prove your OK.

It isn't, visual check only. Until the OP puts a photo of the discs up everything is speculation. I would think a disc wearing thin enough to fail an MOT over three years must be made from hard cheese.
