I was driving down the dual carriageway, at about 55mph and out of nowhere front end locked up. Skidded to stop it felt like a tyre had gone, got out to check them and they where fine. I set off with a bit off juddering and it felt like it free'd off but with like a whining/humming noise all the way home and it felt like something was holding it back.

Turned it off at home, drove to the shop and it seems fine again. Iv had a look and theres nothing obvious to see, and only the handbrake light came on very faint when it happend. Its a 300tdi S reg.

Iv had someone check the wheel bearings there all fine, iv dropped the oil from the front diff, it was like new no shards etc. And tonight iv dropped the oil from the transfer box and took the inspection plate off and thats all good too.

Iv also lost.brakes, well there there but after two pumps the pedal goes rock hard and i loose my breaks. Theres also a grumbling noise when i turn right.

Please someone help! Im at a dead end.

It sounds like a possible caliper seizing issue. Only tonight I heard a tale from my MOT chum about his mum having a caliper seize one, she still drove it home but it had cracked the caliper.

Test the wheels, can you rotate each of the wheels by hand?

Yeah i can rotate all of them easily.

Took all the wheels off tonight and i cant see nothing obvious at all. All though there is grinding noise now especially when i brake and turn right.

Definitely sounds like at least one bad caliper, if they seize while still making contact they obviously just heat up to the point where they expand until they lock completely. If that's the problem then of course by time you went to shop everything had cooled down and released again.
