if it says petrol and diesel on then it is ok I would not like to try the type just for petrol cars but surly there can not be that much difference why don't you get in touch with Castrol and they will answer you .

Look on the Castrol website.

I use Magnatec 5W30 C3 in my Td4. It's their equivalent of Dexos2 which is what LR and BMW currently recommend for this engine.

You don't state what year you TD4 is ?

2000-2003 - 10w-40 or 15w-40 ACEA A3/B3 .

2004-2006 - 0w-30 , 5w-30 , 5w-40 , 10w-30 , 10w-40 , 10w-50 , 10w-50 ACEA A3/B3 . Depending on temperature were you live .

Engine oil temperature ranges
0W/30 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 35ºC (95ºF).
5W/30 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 35ºC (95ºF).
5W/40 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).
5W/50 will protect from -30ºC (-22ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).
10W/30 will protect from -10ºC (14ºF) to 30ºC (86ºF).
10W/40 will protect from -10ºC (14ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).
10W/60 will protect from -10ºC (14ºF) to 50ºC (122ºF).

Its a 2000 mate, and looks like it is no good for mine as the oil specs for my engine [bmw] is acea a3/b4 or a3/b3, the Castrol magnatic oil spec is acea b2

That Castrol oil must be old then ?
Mine is a 2000 TD4 and I use a 10w-40 semi synthetic ( Quantum synta )

off subject a bit but,
had to service my daughters camper, a mazda bongo 2.5td
phoned europarts as it was not on the online list for oils.
turned out it specified some weired spec for oils..
undetered i went to a local car spares shop and asked for mazda bongo oil and he wondered off to look, but came back with a Moriss oils company`s product that was compareable spec..
had to get 2 x 4.5 litre cans, no filter as i had already ordered one, but the oil came to a whopping £80....
after filter change and sump fill, had 2 or 3 litres over still though..

for the life of me cannot understand why they make cars/vans with strange specs for oils..

the engine does sound so much better now than the black as coal oil it had in before..

and it drives so nicely...fully powered turbo diesel auto.....
small finger steers the bloody thing..
was a shame to give it back....lol

2 months old mate, but I made a mistake in my first post , it is fully synthetic oil that I have not semi synthetic, sorry about that

I will throw my hat in the ring here and say that I honestly doubt it would hurt the car for 10k miles before you change it again. I have some 5w30 to go in my td4 this week, always used 5w30 semi, never been to fussed with the specific spec as long as it was a modern oil. 177k so far. Considering half the folks run on 10w40 semi it's in the middle at 5w40

You might just have a point, sometimes more choices makes it harder to choose, don't think it will be in more than 7k to be honest, so I will give it a go, it's got to be better than the stuff that's in, don't know what it is or how long its been in !!!
