Hi I believe the vcu has seized every time I do a sharp left or right turn it feels like the brakes are coming on,
I've seen on the forum that you can take the prop shaft off and drive it if I remove the shaft do I need to blank off the ird?
This would only be until I can get a new vcu.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You are always better off asking Freelander questions in the Freelander section.
You can remove both prop shaft sections and the VCU. The vehicle will simply run as a front wheel drive car. It's safer to run FWD if the VCU is on it's way out to save the IRD or rear diff being over loaded which will cause the failure of either or both. You don't need to do anything to the IRD or diff flanges but it's a good idea to spray them with WD40 to stop them rusting before the prop shafts can be refitted.

Thanks Nodge 68 for the polite and informative answer unlike the previous reply from gems dad,
I used to own a landrover county 3.5 v8 then went to a discovery,
But thought I would upgrade from the disco to a proper landrover and got a 110 defender td5 which I had to sell after my divorce,
So now I'm starting again and as the defenders were well out of my budget and any discos in my price range were rotten had to settle for gay lander.

Reminds me of my unfortunate gaylander days. If I were you I'd get rid and get a proper Landy.
