Up **** creek.
Hi all,

ive just bagged myself a set of Magnecor Blue Electrosports80 HT leads for 70 squids and am well chuffed, i just wanted your opinion on the magnecor brand and also the magnecor blues on an LPG setup?

I have an RPI A&R power amp connected and have been told that these are the leads to use whilst running these amps, especially with LPG.

Ive also been told that V8s, especially ones running on LPG have to have thier electrics setup tip top and working just perfect unlike diesels.

until yesterday i had a set of 8 x red 8mm performance HT leads from paddocks and 1 x black britpart king HT lead from the ignition coil (the red king HT lead wasnt long enough!).

When i first put the new leads on and started her up the revs sat about 500rpm higher than usual but after a minute or 2 the ECU re adjusted itself, it now seems to run ever so slightly better/smoother but to be honest i havent really been out for a proper run and it could all be in my head!

Sooooo, i just wonderd what your opinions are on the Magnecor brand and especially interested in what people have to say about magnecor blues on an LPG set up, and especially in conjuntion with the RPI A&R power amp?

Cheers.:)

Leads & amp worked pretty well on my old 3.9 classic, got an extra 30 miles out of a tank of gas & the engine was more willing to rev due to the more advanced timing.....

While Magnecor leads can make a difference, they don't make £80-£100 worth of difference, and are grossly overpriced for what they are.

Like a lot of the things in your sig, they are retail therapy and if that's what you want to do with your money, then good luck to you, you've earned the wages and it's your choice what you spend it on.

I've got standard Champion leads on my 4.0 Thor Disco and they work fine on LPG. Plugs are double platinum Champions also.

the rover v8 in classic form only really like genuine dealer issue vap leads and rotor plenty onhere will confirm this ask fett! for the price of just the leads you have bought add £30 and you would have a new cap and rotor arm too and have overhauled the whole ignition system

Cheers guys, whenever i need to replace a part my thought proccess goes something along the lines of "well if i gotta replace it i may aswel replace it with a part that is of equal/better quality" im a lazy git a prefer to do a job once and then forget about it for as long as i can. with the bilsteins i feel i couldnt go wrong, with the engine parts - leads and filters etc - i feel that they wont ever make a huge difference as the engines ECU will pick up on any changes and adjust itself to factory settings anyway but i did these more from a service point of view as they carry "lifetime warranty". I havent quite mastered the technical side of things so have just been going for popular brands that i know (i was a bit of a boy racer in my youth - its probably a throwback from then!) but the tyres and the exhaust in my opinion have been worth thier weight in gold! I know that you can get equal quality products much cheaper than some of these brands (eg:- t shirt by Adidas £45, the same top no logo - a tenner) i just dont know which ones to get so i thought "pay a bit more, play it safe". Im getting more technical and mechanically minded by the day and with the friendly advice from you guys it wont be long before im changing camshafts and looking at compression ratios - yeah right! but i am getting there.

I have probably spent more than i should but i dont have any other hobbies and enjoy looking after my baby and to me i have been spending within my means. I will, with your help try to be a bit more savvy with my purchases from now on and to stop believing the hype and listening more to you guys more (RPI say they are the ONLY leads for my set up - LPG with power amp but maybe i should listen to people who actually drive Lrs not just sell thier accessories). thanks guys.:)

If you go onto the USA LR sites, you'd think that Magnecor were the only leads in the world!

If you need to replace the leads, then by all means don't buy the cheapest around, go for a brand like Champion, Bosch or LR OEM leads.

Ours has the same leads on that were there when we bought it, haven't needed to change them so they will stay there for now.

Ignition with LPG is slightly more demanding, probably more so with distributor ignition as opposed to the Bosch Motronic electronics on our D2.

Double platinum plugs are worth the money in my view, but put some Copaslip on the threads when fitting them. Plugs can seize in the heads if left alone too long, and the double-platinums are supposed to be good for 75000 miles without attention.

rpi are very good at spending your money but many people on many forums do not rate either there know how or parts so please research plenty before spending money with them

ooh get me with all me fancy bits n bobs... :p
Fook, i just added up what you've spent on your motor and it's probably more than my range cost

Seriously though, whatever floats your boat, if you've got money to throw at the car and it makes you feel good then why not. magnecor do have a good reputation generally as a good quality product but then so are lots of others for £30 or so. Mine runs on gas with a stock ignition system and 30 quid bosch leads and never misses a beat.
After a read of the rpi site i must say it does seem like they would tell you just about anything to get you to believe you need their amazing products...

Cheers for all your honest opinions guys - thats what i love about this forum - and not too much ****taking either! I am trying to get in the loop with all the right bits of kit and that but im the only one of my mates that vaguely even likes Landys, the only info ive learned has been off the internet, landy mags and here. I have learned to listen to you guys more and not the sales pitch but im still learning every day. I feel a new thread coming, about what part makes/companies to use/avoid.

Incidentally, the motor only cost me £1700 2 years ago, ive spent about a grand on it as some of the bits were already on it and ive had the posh son of someone i know offer me a definate £2500 when i can afford to get me my disco2! (these prices dont include running costs/tax/insurance, replacement waterpump, tensioner bearing, new belt, plugs, dizzy cap, LPG stepper motor etc).

So overall not too fussed about the cost, tbh i would have spunked it all partying anyway if i hadnt spent it on my baby, so at least ive got something to show for it, for a change! cheers fellas:)

ok that is just a drop in the well heres where i,m upto
car 8 years ago £9,500
since then i have spent on parts no labour charge here 15,000 and still spending!

The simple requirement is to keep the ignition system in good nick when running LPG, you don't need any fancy products. LPG burns hotter (and slower) than petrol, so you should ideally fit colder plugs to compensate. I fitted NGK in mine as have always got on well with 'em, and get them cheap. OEM leads and coils, well maintained and kept clean is all mine runs.

Bear in mind its a Disco 2 with the Thor (Bosch) V8 running a single vapouriser LPG system, not the multipoint that is recommended - but she's absolutely sweet as :) Put 2k miles on her this month too :D

>to you guys more (RPI say they are the ONLY leads for my set up - LPG >with power amp but maybe i should listen to people who actually drive >Lrs not just sell thier accessories)

My experience with RPI is that they really know what they are doing with the Rover V8. Go along to their place and see.

Cheers

My experience was that they really know what they are doing when it comes to your wallet and not much else

We picked up a set of STI leads in the US last month for $27.00 post free, I think that was from an Amazon affiliate.

We originally fitted a set of these a couple of years back and they have been good, so brought a set back for No2 Son who also runs a D2 V8 now.

waste of money - won't do anything better than a decent set of standard HT leads.
