Re broken synchro springs. I had exactly the same fault on my old SIII LWB. I removed the broken bits and carried on with only two springs. The box did about another 50k miles before being removed for a different fault. ZD

You need the correct part or you need to make the correct part. The proper part has a pin in it that locates into the pulley and provides the drive. This way the drive is not transmitted simply by how tight the bolt is. There are two sizes of part because the crankshaft bolt is different...

Check the accuracy of the gauge before you start any work relating to the temperature part of your problem. Very few instruments in a LR give anything close to a true reading (wait till you look at the fuel gauge and the speedo) ZD
