    Disco 2 ABS problem

The end to the saga.... The rear hub that was leaking oil had a collapsed wheel bearing (but you could not feel it when driving the car). The bearing had loosened the halfshaft nut! and it was probably only the brake caliper that was stopping the wheel from falling off. Fitted a new hub and...

    Disco 2 ABS problem

Thanks for your input everyone As it turns out one of the lads in the LR club has a nanocom (sensible man!). We tested it and found two hub problems - the one that I replaced (probably because I had disconnected it) and one of the rear ones - probably the original fault. Haven't had time to...

    Disco 2 ABS problem

Problems with the Disco - can anyone help? ABS light came on a couple of weeks ago (off when you started the vehicle but came on after a few yards), when I checked it over I found the front drivers side wheel bearing had play in it - no problem thinks I, that will be the cause of the ABS light...

    Stuk overdrive

The bolt that acts as the pivot at the bottom of the lever is the usual point for the OD to sieze. In the past I have removed the bolt and cross drilled it and then fitted a grease nipple to the middle of the head of the bolt. That way you can keep it greased at the same time as you are...

    can't get 3rd or 4th gear

Re broken synchro springs. I had exactly the same fault on my old SIII LWB. I removed the broken bits and carried on with only two springs. The box did about another 50k miles before being removed for a different fault. ZD

    Yet another Capstan Question!

You need the correct part or you need to make the correct part. The proper part has a pin in it that locates into the pulley and provides the drive. This way the drive is not transmitted simply by how tight the bolt is. There are two sizes of part because the crankshaft bolt is different...

    Winch selection

Has anyone got one of the Britpart or Tmax winches? I am looking for one for the front of a series motor amd want to be unobtrusive - mounted behind the bumper between the dumb irons. Has anyone fitted one in this way? if so which one have you fitted and did you encounter any problems mounting...

CORRIEYAIRACK PASS or ANY RECOMENDATIONS IN SCOTLAND

TD4 sorry mate I didn't realise that you were up here. Looking back through the posts a couple of comments: The Devils Staircase - Its part of the West Highland Way, I've walked it and would not like to try to drive it. There is another part of the WHW north from Kinlochleven that is...

CORRIEYAIRACK PASS or ANY RECOMENDATIONS IN SCOTLAND

If you are coming up from the south you may find that the poor state of our roads up here are near the equivalent to green lanes elsewhere!!! Try contacting www.scotways.org. They may be able to assist ZD

CORRIEYAIRACK PASS or ANY RECOMENDATIONS IN SCOTLAND

Just be careful in Scotland as we have very few legal "green lanes". If you read LROI and some of the other mags you will notice that whenever they do an article about driving from one end of the country to the other they always start/stop at the border. There are a couple of off road sites...

CORRIEYAIRACK PASS or ANY RECOMENDATIONS IN SCOTLAND

AFAIK The Corrieyairack pass is a public road. I along with members of the SLROC crossed it a few times in the 1980's. But.... We tried again in the 1990's and found that there was a lot of resistance to using it. At the time one of the larger scottish newspapers ran an article about it and...

    Locking wheel nuts - CRAP

I found that the locking wheel nut key thing split and broke (like the one in the article in LRO a few months back). I turned up a ring to fit around the outside of the tool to keep it together and pressed the tool into it. I also found that the wheel nuts were rusting under the stainless...

    Thermostat lies ?

Check the accuracy of the gauge before you start any work relating to the temperature part of your problem. Very few instruments in a LR give anything close to a true reading (wait till you look at the fuel gauge and the speedo) ZD
