Just an idea. If it is possible try and squirt some brakefluid into the handbrake drum it will loosen the rust, it works on manifold bolts.

Defender 90 nothing compares, unless you want to farm with it. Tdi great fuel economy but if you are after power rather go for Td5.

Check free play on swivel hubs that pre load is right,also check that your steering damper is not shot,maybe even wheel alignment.
