Hi all, I wanted to replace the engine of a defender td5 (manual) with that of a discovery td5 (auto). I am only aware of reprogramming the injectors but not aware of any other issues. Does anyone know if there could be other things that I might have missed?

Just curious, does the discovery td5 take input from sensors to shift gears? I have driven the defender with disco engine and gearbox for a short distance but it seemed like it was not changing gears. However i did not put to much pressure on the accelerator so maybe that's the reason?

Had it sorted a few days back. During engine transplant the crank schaft sensor was slightly damaged. Replaced with another one andaproblem solved since

Hi all, my defender td5 has developed some issues with it's rear differential. Luckily I have the front and rear differential of a disco td5. Would it be possible to use any one of these for the defender, either as a direct swap or just for parts. Any advice always appreciated before I go off...

Yes, I also don't think that the maf sensor would lead to over fuelling. I have another defender td5 whwhi revs okay with maf disconnected. Yeah someons with td5 wisdom would be appreciated

Yeah, going to take it to the dealer and see what they can do about it. Could the turbt valve be stuck and as such not draw enough air?

Posting after a very long time, I did not have a lot of time to work on car. almost finished with it now. Starts up fine, no check engine lights, however when I press the throttle it starts to 'shudder' and cuts out. During this it blows black smoke. Someone told me that it might be over...
