Unfortunately the fuel pump of my def. died yesterday so lost 2 days solving that issue. I put the disco pump in the defender since this was the cheapest option

In other news, cables of the disco are almost done, just one last part. Does anyone know what the cable branching of the gearbox ecu goes to? See pic

I'll be interested if this works since I have a disco 2 I was thinking to sell but if the td5 can go into a defender I might do that since it was rebuilt before I got it
Also I've used a tdci bulkhead on my 300tdi build and the wiring isn't fun, imagine be alot more annoying with all the stuff off the td5. Alot more electrics. Ecu abs etc don't know how you'd even start
Also I has to mod the tunnel on mine using a disco r380 I know people used auto boxes to avoid that and worked well. Think he used a disco 3 center console waa nice. Ima custom a center console/cubby for mine maybe used disco 2 gaitors or something longer

guys need some advice on the pressure of the fuel which the td5 needs to start. Does it need to be exactly 4 bar; My other defender td5 is still not starting; cranks over fine but nothing beyond that. I measured at the temp sensor of the regulator and I get below 4 bar, 3.8 approx.
Could this be the reason that the car is not starting?

Posting after a very long time, I did not have a lot of time to work on car. almost finished with it now. Starts up fine, no check engine lights, however when I press the throttle it starts to 'shudder' and cuts out.
During this it blows black smoke. Someone told me that it might be over fueling?
What do you guys think

A lot of black smoke would tend to indicate un-burned fuel. So sounds like over fuelling. Presumably you've checked it's breathing ok, ie nice clean air filter, no obstructions fallen in to intake pipe?

Yeah, going to take it to the dealer and see what they can do about it. Could the turbt valve be stuck and as such not draw enough air?

Without any load on the engine ie it's not pulling the weight of the vehicle, it shouldn't need much help from the turbo to rev up.
You need input from someone familiar with the TD5 engine and I'm not. The TD5 also has a MAF (Mass Air flow) sensor which helps regulate the air/fuel mixture to optimum levels. If the MAF sensor has failed it can cause issues because it send incorrect signals to the ECU. However, if you take the MAF sensor out the engine will run quite well. Just not at optimum fuel/air mix. However, you could do with someone who knows more about the TD5 engine than me.

Yes, I also don't think that the maf sensor would lead to over fuelling. I have another defender td5 whwhi revs okay with maf disconnected.
Yeah someons with td5 wisdom would be appreciated

Had it sorted a few days back. During engine transplant the crank schaft sensor was slightly damaged. Replaced with another one andaproblem solved since

Just curious, does the discovery td5 take input from sensors to shift gears? I have driven the defender with disco engine and gearbox for a short distance but it seemed like it was not changing gears. However i did not put to much pressure on the accelerator so maybe that's the reason?
