    IRD missing a bit?

Try making the image smaller, as inn fewer megabytes, not sure about this one, but some forums limit the size of images that can be loaded. Alternately, load it ont summat like photobucket and use the linky things that offers to insert it into the thread.

Engine on TD4 starts then dies

In addition to the above it might be worth chcking the crankshaft sensor, although it if it's getting much over 450 rpm before dieing then it's probably not that.

    freelander 1

I think that covers the Td4 vs 1.8 argument very neatly. Besides the engine they all have the same faults, if you can live with the risk of HGF the 1.8 is a very tempting item for the money :) I still made the wife get the Td4 auto though ;) :)

    freelander 1

Td4, add a Ron Box, check the VCU and drive train regularly, make sure all the electrics work (including the sun roof, if fitted), check the turbo pipes. Sit in it, enjoy :) I know of folk with Rover 75s, with the same diesel engine, that have done over 200k miles and only ever had routine...

Just bought a modded Freelander TD4... seems to have no front PropShaft!

Could be the VCU bearings, I'll bet the rear diff will turn the propshaft while the vehicle is moving. What state are the tyres in? Quite a few reports on here of odd rumbling noises being cured by tyre changes.

    Worsening vibration

Sorry, it's the IRD recon sticky, not the IRD rip off sticky you want to look at for the photos.

    Worsening vibration

How are the tyres? Mismatched tyres, or worn tyres are a problem on Freelanders from time to time. One of the many steps we took to get ours from horrible to nicec was replacing all four tyres, our problem was vibration, started about 35 mph and got worse up to mid 50s, then settled down and...

Just bought a modded Freelander TD4... seems to have no front PropShaft!

I'm not the only one to have bouht a Freelander by auction, in the wet, only to find bits missing then :D Ours was missing the entire setup, front and rear prop shaft and VCU, hopefully you made the same sort of saving we did and have the 'spare' cash to fix it with out spending more than you...

Advice please on which Landy to buy

With that sort of money, disco TDV for the road and family stuff. Defender 90, with a 300 Tdi, for mud plugging and stuff. If you've got more than you and the missus to drag around the extra room in the Disco will be advantageous and the TDV engine is ruddy good according to a couple of...

My latest project has landed.. here she is:

Before you buy a new turbo for it, check the turbo hoses (If you haven't already). They split, once split the things give off huge clouds of black smoke at almost any RPM. This happened a couple of weeks ago on the wife's she paniced and took it to the nearest LR dealer who pronounced a dead...

    Td4 Auto Power Query

As mentioned, get all the bits that wear out or clog up checked, it's amazing how much difference things like old turbo hoses, clogged EGR valves, ageing MAFS and clogged filters can make to the TD4 engine. If you want LOTS of power then take a look at a couple of MG ZT / Rover 75 forums...

    Question for dog owners

We have two boxers, although the old one (she's 9 now) wont willingly jump in the back they both enjoy a ride in the car. We have an old duvet on the floor of both cars, stops them sliding around makes a very comfy bed for a nap mid journey if they get board. Both cars do have dog guards...

    Break for spares or repair

Lesson to take away from this is to ask on here before paying a truck load of money to dealer for diagnostic work, The Zone is cheaper and more accurate :)

    Newbie owner, problems!

Is that the shock absorber damping, or the bushes that's knackered? Ordinary cars I'd lean towards bushes, but I'm learning that Freebies are 'special' ;) :)
