I run 265/70 R16 with no lift and tired springs no problem no acceleration problems and speedo is right on with GPS. I think I could get to 155 KmH on the Autobahn never had it over 140 KmH but will try on the way home today , I am at work will post pic later if you want to see.

Hello, I would say your "groaning noise" is a sign that the power steering pump is at the end of its life or some kind of binding in the steering system, I have not heard or seen that larger tires cause the groan. If it were my disco I would replace pump with quality pump ( not the cheapest )...
