Hi So i've managed to get everything appart and the piston out (after 3 hours of filing the conrod so it'f it out of the bore). I had a quick question regarding the torque converter. when i split the engine and gearbox, there was some tranny oil which came out of the bell housing (clean stuff)...

Yeah i was thinking that it didn't feel right! Thats a shame didn't want to have the gearbox out! haynes didn't say that these bolts were there...

checking the oil is not particulary straight foward to do, but check the web/manual i cant quite remember the process... Steve

Know the feeling, however i have a mini pickup and a 1275 100hp engine to go in it :) just got the bodyworkto finish off .... still love my freelander 1 though.. Steve

Ok so its been a while.. you may all be wondering whats happened! Well.... I've fitted the new vcu/prop bearings. give her a good oil change (ird, gearbox and filters) i've checked the read diff and plent of oil in there. can see how to change it though as theres no drain plug...

It seems as though no one answered your question. I believe there is already an at oil cooler on these discos. So shouldnt need one. One thing to do though is check the gearbox fluid level. If its running low then there is less thermal capacity. Steve.

thanks i'm sure i can source them.. Just a little update, got all the spares i needed today, fitted the clutch master+ slave, and the clutch is working fine, so now she's driveable.... well ok make that stoppable!:car: Started to pull the old universal joint out of the prop shat to replace...
