Oh and also the seal is evil stuff... It stains and sticks to EVERYTHING!! It will come off in lumps when cold and sticks to itself so although its time consuming you can pick it off once the panel is removed....

I'm at that stage with my own rebuild. The press it on and pull it off method works very well. Unfortunately, the repetitive action has taken the skin off my thumb too! Bugger.

White spirit seems to work quite well at getting the residue off and then obviously you'll need some cheap thinners to get the white spirit off.

Perhaps we aught to start a self-help group. Discovery restorers anonymous! :D

looking brill mate...i'm now looking for another to take up a year of my time!!

I'm cracking on as fast as time and the budget committee allow but I hope to have it on the road before a year is up ... but tinkering and bits will take longer I feel... just want it water tight.. ish... for the winter... good luck finding another project... twice_nightly might have something going :D

Yeah I have a feeling it would get off topic VERY quickly... :5bcheers2:...

Yea takes pics of the lot. Defo something I want to do. U goin to fit sheet for windows on inside?

Cool I will post plenty of pics.... I was thinking out side but I'll see how it looks once I have the quarter panels back on. I'm not really worried about security, it is much quicker breaking a window than trying to pry metal off.... :)

I was thinking from the inside would look a bit neater. By not sure how flat surface is on the inside. Keep the pics coming, gettin me awfully motivated!!! Haha

Took one of the alpine windows out. Taking glass into work to roll the correct curvature on a bit of sheet metal tomorrow.
Sealed water tight with the trusty old gaffa tape! Not the best weather to be doing it in but ahh well....

Yeah having some to role or bend stuff would be awesome. I tell you if I won the lottery my work shop would be like a flippin warehouse!!
What were the edges like around the window? I haven't removed mine yet but was worried it would be to rotten to affix metal to. Not that yours being ok would be any guarantee mine would be ok :D

Yeah they have gone in the same places mine had or was... Just really check your seat belt mounts if you have rear seats, mine were very bad. You should be able to patch in there ok though....

As for filler I haven't had a lot but just found some in the rear drivers side door arch... so I'm going to have to cut that out and patch. I'll leave that till I stick the sills in though. Good luck with yours though mate.... :D

The metal surrounding window is spot on. The one I have removed has been leaking for years aswel but it's all good. Couldn't believe how easily it came out. I think the gaffa tape is more secure than that window ever was.

Tried rolling the sheet but wasn't having any of it so had to tack one edge to a length of heavy pipe and gradually warm, bend an beat into shape.

One alpine done, just needs trimming to size I need.

Starting patching up holes and the bloody set ran out of gas. Every panel is riddled. Going to be like a jigsaw of metal pieces. Ha

Got both sides done the other week. Has since lashed down Great Britain style and for the first time since I've owned her not a drop of water got through either of them.

Well its been a while since I have been on... Time just seems to fly by. I did have the week off in September and I did do tons of work the pics of which are all still sitting on my phone waiting to be downloaded. Something I shall try to get them on tonight. Been on my to-do list for the last month. Anyway the Landy is now turned round which means my fuel connections etc all worked as they should and I haven't got any major leaks. Due to the crap weather and other priorities I haven't done much recently but got a pretty free weekend ahead of me so praying for some at least dry weather to crack on removing front suspension and axle, once I have them off I'll then move on to doing a cam belt change..... :D
Something the Stallion said the other day made me think a bit.... Larger intercooler might be a little upgrade I'm going to do as a start to getting a few more ponys out... Watch this space....
