Hi
So I i'm having to replace a bent conrod on my 200tdi Auto disco.
I've got the head off, sump, oil pump etc. all thats left is the ladder frame and then big ends and the pistons should come out.
The engine is still in the car, but i'm struggling with the frame.
I've done some digging on the tinterweb but theres a lot of conflicting info. some say theres some bolts in the bell housing which need undoing, but others don't.
anyone have any ideas?

Steve

Bellhousing bolts holding it in, look in your Haynes manual, will dig mine out in a bit to say for sure.

what ever you do don't force it or you'll have a trip to a machine shop to get it trued up.

Yeah i was thinking that it didn't feel right!

Thats a shame didn't want to have the gearbox out! haynes didn't say that these bolts were there...

There aren't that many in it and the G~box can stay in situ I recon, perhaps supporting it with a tranny jack or even a bottle jack would be enough to take the pressure off the top bolts as you whipped the ladder frame away.

Strange though isn't it, same block basically for a 300Tdi but no ladder stiffener

Hi

So i've managed to get everything appart and the piston out (after 3 hours of filing the conrod so it'f it out of the bore).

I had a quick question regarding the torque converter. when i split the engine and gearbox, there was some tranny oil which came out of the bell housing (clean stuff)
the TC seemd to stay with the flywheel. I only seperated them about 1inch, so that i could just fit a spanner in to undo the ladder bolts.
have i ruined the TC oil seal? or do you reckon i'm ok to just to bolt it all back up together again. dont want to put it all back together again to find that it leaks!!! :(
Thanks as always..
Steve
