I was going to advise to check the power sterring fluid level. top it up to max till you get it sorted and keep an eye on it. I managed to get a brand new pump for 35 quid on ebay for an l series diesel not long back. an hours work and all was fine again. its not the hardest of jobs to do.

If i get time after work tomorrow i'll measure the old tank i've got in the shed. Is it max dimensions? i.e. hight, width and depth or full measurements you need?
Cheers

Weld it yourself then get it pressure tested, you may be suprised at how well you can weld? or you may have to pay someone to patch up the weaker joints, but may be cheaper to patch up your welds rather than pay a pro to weld the full tank?
jus a thought!
