Freelander 1 - Red engine management light

Ran engine for about 20mins with expansion cap off - red light came on after about 15mins. Hoses getting hot as per before and steam coming from expansion bottle by end. Temp gauge gradually rose but settled just before half-way. What I did notice was that cooling fans never kicked in at all...

Freelander 1 - Red engine management light

I didn't bleed it after replacing CTS but problem was existing then - I would have expected garage to have done so when they replaced my hoses as they are a reliable lot. However, I will bleed it this morning.

Freelander 1 - Red engine management light

The radiator is hot but I don't think quite as hot as the hoses and expansion bottle. I changed the coolant temp sensor the other day in the vain hope it may have been the problem (previous searches on here and other forums had pointed to it as a potential issue and for sake of £11 from GSF I...

Before I take my Freelander 1 2.0Di down to the garage to plug into their diags machine, I would appreciate some pointers on an issue with the red engine management light that has started coming on the dash over the past few days Light comes on after about 10mins from a cold (eg overnight)...

Thanks for advice all. Kizzeh - you advised fitting bigger tyres, mine has the 16" wheels with 215/65 tyres - did you mean bigger tyres or the wheels too?

    L series RPM at 70mph in 5th?

It was a used box but sold as being for a L series - is there a code stamped on it anywhere I can check? (I still have the old box) Is it possible to fit the wrong type of gearbox?, are they not different? Sorry, lots of questions!!

    L series RPM at 70mph in 5th?

Hi all, could any L series drivers out there tell me what RPM theirs is doing at 70mph on a normal, flat dual carriageway/motorway in 5th? I've just had the gearbox replaced on mine (old one was grinding and jumping out of reverse). All seems OK (reverse is perfect!) but it seems to rev a...

2.0 DI manual jumping out of reverse

Well, got it back with the slave bracket changed but no improvement I'm afraid - the garage themselves noted it was still jumping out of reverse. I'm guessing its new 'box time.

2.0 DI manual jumping out of reverse

Kizzeh - it may not have been be going in to reverse fully altho I did not notice a massive difference from when it was working fine. As it turns out your reply is very timely - the car was in for an NSF anti-roll bar change today and the garage have told me the slave cylinder bracket is...

2.0 DI manual jumping out of reverse

Hi all, appreciate some advice on my 2.0DI manual. Basically it jumps out of reverse - it started off doing it only occasionally but now most of time accompanied by much crunching when you try and get it back in. When it first started doing it you could get around it by switching off the...

    Clutch issue with Freelander 2.0DI

Morning all, I would appreciate some advice on the issue I have with my Freelander DI - I'm more or less positive its clutch related but unsure whether its master/slave or the plate itself. Symptoms are: difficult to engage gears while engine is running (especially at low speeds), high take-up...

Freelander Airflow meter change - fault code reset?

My local (very good) garage diagnosed a faulty airflow meter on my Freelander DI after I reported a sluggishness in acceleration and an increase in fuel consumption. I duly replaced the part myself as they could not get hold of one that day but I'm not convinced things have improved that much...
