Hi all, appreciate some advice on my 2.0DI manual.

Basically it jumps out of reverse - it started off doing it only occasionally but now most of time accompanied by much crunching when you try and get it back in.

When it first started doing it you could get around it by switching off the engine, selecting reverse and then turning it back on but it seems to slip out when this method is used now too.

All forward gears work seem to work perfectly. The clutch was replaced last summer and I had hoped this would fix it (it was intermittent then) but no such luck.

I'd appreciate any pointers - is the gearbox basically U/S or is there anything else I can check before considering this expensive replacement? If the gearbox does require replacing any ideas how long it would take? (garage hours I mean).

Thanks in anticipation.

Jonathan

Does it fully go into gear to begin with? Slave cylinder brackets are known to crack and flex when you put your foot on the clutch therefor loosing the effectiveness of the clutch pedal. You can check this yourself it's on the front of the gearbox and if you have a assistant to press the pedal you might see it move

Kizzeh - it may not have been be going in to reverse fully altho I did not notice a massive difference from when it was working fine.

As it turns out your reply is very timely - the car was in for an NSF anti-roll bar change today and the garage have told me the slave cylinder bracket is broken (presumably they noticed it as it is in the same area) so I've asked them to replace it - it's being done to tomorrow so will see if you are right. Many thanks for the advice.
Regards,
Jonathan

Well, got it back with the slave bracket changed but no improvement I'm afraid - the garage themselves noted it was still jumping out of reverse. I'm guessing its new 'box time.
