Leave the chassis for a year then prime and paint as normal.
Local authorities have done this with galvanised lampposts for years.

If it's a Freelander 2 with the screw-in cap, I've got an almost new one here going spare, £10 delivered.
If it's a Freelander 1 not sure of the fit.

However bad your experience, you are asking for further trouble with a possible libel action in my opinion.;)

Nothing too unusual about key fobs not working, they are susceptible to external interference. Mine does it in local car park all the time, ok everywhere else.
Car not starting could be faulty lock barrel of possibly sticking inhibitor switch on gearbox.

It certainly does work.
Kept my disco going for 17.5 years before I sold it, almost no rust on the car.

You might have a problem next year at mot time if as expected the mot test includes for checking that your car has a cat fitted if it was fitted with a cat at manufacture.
As I understand it they will just check the cat is there nothing else.
If the cat should be there and it isn't.....fail...

You could try disconnecting the battery -ve terminal for a few minutes and see if anything clears.

Thanks for the comments, having bought one of these things recently a gearbox oil change is top of my list.
Now I can do it properly:)
