    Freelander TD4 Intermittant Power Loss

Hi My 2004 TD4 Freelander is suffering from intermittent loss of power. An engine management light (see attached photo) comes on and the car suffers loss of power. It doesn't fail, it just goes into a low power mode such that it won't go over about 30mph. The car only does this when the engine...

    EGR Hose.

Thanks. Does it matter which hose (on the EGR Solenoid) goes where ? IE does the vacuum tank hose go on the inner or outer connection ? Inner being the one farthest from the battery ? Or is the other way round or does it matter ?

    EGR Hose.

Hi I had a problem with my 04 plated TD4 Freelander which turned out to be O rings in the high pressure fuel pump (engine not starting), followed by not revving over 2,500RPM. All now fixed (O rings in HP Fuel pump for non starting and badly seated Crankshaft position sensor for not revving)...

    TD4 Not Starting....

The wiring to the common rail sensor was changed last year. The sensor itself was not changed at the time. The connections seemed OK but I will check again tomorrow. How do I test the pressure sensor....

    TD4 Not Starting....

The engine starts & runs but won't rev smoothly above 2500 RPM. It did rev smoothly beforehand. I will refit the O rings in case I messed that up. Any other ideas ? I suppsoe if teh fuel pump supplies fuel at sufficient pressure the pump is OK, and the problem could well be something between...

    TD4 Not Starting....

Hi I fitted replacement O rings the HP pump sensor at the back of the HP fuel pump. The engine started and ran for a good 20 minutes until I turned it off. I then tried restarting it and after a a short period it started but the engine was not revving smoothly. I stopped the engine and then...

    TD4 Not Starting....

Hi all I have a 2004 TD4 Freelander that has done 138,000 and been a reliable car for the years I have owned, up until last week. Scenario, came home from work, all as usual, no problems no over heating or anything unusual. Following day jumped in the TD4 and it failed to start. The engine...

    Running Problem

Thanks for the reply. I have tried injector cleaner (full bottle in 5 litres of fuel) and the a full bottle in a full tank. Made no difference. I don't think a new set of glow plugs will help as it dies when the engine is hot....not just on starting. I'll try a leak back test as I have a...

    Running Problem

Hi all I could do with a bit of advice about this..... Background: TD4 Freelander, 105K on the clock, bought in Dec 2016 with 80K on the clock (so 25K since then. Its had the turbo hoses changed and rear brakes done. Recently I gave it a major service, oil, filters etc etc, including new fuel...

    Freelander Turbo ?

Hi all I have a Freelander (2004 so a Freelander 1) diesel and could do with a bit of help with. It developed a fault whereas there was absolutely no power in it, and it took ages to accelerate (slow build up of power) and had a hissing / loud fan type of noise at high revs. I replaced an...

    td5 knocking and shakeing

On a 200 and 300 series this was a classic symptom of the steering damper failing... worth a look ? Cheap fix on a 200 or 300.

TD5 Traction Control ABS Brake Lights On....

Evening all My wifes 52 plated TD5 has recently developed an annoying fault. The ABS Warning Light is staying on, as is the Traction Control and Parking Brake lights, even though the parking brake is off. Furthermore it seems sluggish and ***seems*** to have a heavier than normal fuel...

    Clutch...AAaaaaargh!!!! Fnarr!

Here we go.... The clutch had appeared to have gone on my 300TDi Disco. S Reg. So in these times of recession (and me being a tight fisted git) I decided to do the job myself. I changed the clutch, and whilst the pad on the old plate seemed to be OK, the springs and other bits just fell out...
