    Broken wipers!

I've had this on my drivers side wiper and it was caused by the cable breaking....well not completely breaking, I'll try and explain. The cable that runs from the wiper motor to the 2 wheel boxes is made of 2 bits, there is a inner cable (multiple core cable) which has a solid wire wrapped...

Chassis Galvanized - new or original

Ok, a lot of really good points being raised... So to make it a little clearer the original land rover chassis that I have been offered is a brand new one, that they have modified to accept the 200tdi mounts and then had galvanized. Therefore no issues of rust or bad repairs...only the issue...

Chassis Galvanized - new or original

I've been considering which is the best option for by defender in terms of the chassis. 1. Replacement galvanized chassis from Richards or someone else 2. Original Land Rover chassis that has been galvanized I've got an old 86 defender that I converted to a 200tdi many years ago, but the...

    abs system perhaps?

The whole upgrade of a defender to abs was covered in 2 issues of Land Rover Monthly magazine recently, unless you have lots of knowledge and are willing to swap brake servo, master cylinder, add an abs module and ecu and all of the wiring it's not worth it.

    90 wipers

Hi, I had the same issue, and ordered a replacement cable, however I found that the replacement cables had a different thread pitch and hence would not work with my original wheel boxes. Ended up replacing the whole lot...just a warning.

    Fuel shut off solenoid

Hi, not sure if its too late but I've got the following fitted to my defender, originally it was branded as "Cobra Diesel Guard" but I found that the electronic valve and security tab (like they use in some cash tills in pubs) is available from a company called Kosran. Kosran plant security...

    New Door Suppliers

I need to replace the old lift handle doors on my 90. My original plan was to buy some push button versions off ebay and repair them, however doing a search on the internet has shown that there are suppliers of new doors out there, both push button and lift handle types. The price seems to be...

    Reverse gear

Does reverse gear have a baulk ring? I didn't think that reverse had a syncro. Anyway, ignoring that, from memory when I rebuilt my gearbox there are some adjustments/shims that you need to fit to the gear lever housing. 2 in total, 1 for 5th gear and 1 for reverse - these are spring loaded...

    chassis/welding

A definite MOT failure as it's right by the steering box mounting...and it does look really bad, generally to weld you need something to weld to!! But to answer your original question it can be repaired without taking the body off, but you will need to remove some bits, steering box, bumper...

    would i get shafted if?

not wishing to drag this thread on to long.... but is swapping a old turbo 2.5 diesel with a 200tdi a modification? my thoughts are that land rover actually sold kits to do so, and you are putting a land rover engine in and not say a perkins diesel or some jap engine, at very least get it...

    Front Axle Swivel swap?

Be careful to check that the bolts that fix the caliper are the same... I did the same swap and the bolts fitted ok (or so I thought) but a week or so later I almost crashed when the caliper came off !! I believe that there are 2 different bolts and they are almost the same but not exactly...

    Brake question

I have an issue with the pads in the front calipers that appear to be to small (narrow) and can then move back and forward (in line with the rotation of the disk), and hence cause a clicking noise. It also can cause a slight jerking motion as you apply the brakes....(if you know what I mean!!)

200tdi - intermittent power loss - the saga continues

How about: Faulty fuel cut off solenoid Blocked or split/leaking pipe from turbo to fuel pump Head gasket fault? (Compression test it) Blocked exhaust (more comon on cat's) Turbo fault (when it occurs take pipe of to intercooler and see if rotating) Loose cam belt or pulley (broken woodruff...
