As the air con pulley bearings are squealing I am thinking about deleting the air con pump by removing the compressor and replacing with a new pulley idler and bracket - any issues I should know about?..
I am in the Highlands so cooling a bit of a wasted luxury...

ok so driving home down steepish wet slushy tarred road using gears to reduce speed given current road conditions. I change down into 2nd to make a turn and have to press brake gently to make the turn.
No brakes, just hard vibrating pedal. No option but to abort turn and continue only to find...

sadly no - its a stud type which relies solely on the the thread seal and the tbox drain plug is the same. rave refers to loctite 290 for thread blocking but I was trying to avoid dropping good oil, drying the surfaces and waiting 4hrs for it to cure.
Any suggestions may be welcome.

On getting out of the car tonight I noticed a burning smell and quickly opened the bonnet with a waft of blue smoke coming from the front grille on the left side. It is a relatively new starter motor so I dismissed this.
Not sure if I should drive this tomorrow, but as anyone got any pointers...

I am getting to the stage where the next time I am on a 45 deg incline I will pour in some oil to the end of each of the chassis rails and forget about it!:)
