You could try putting the old switch back on and see if there is power to the bulbs - if so then you have something wrong with the new switch.

Do the brake lights work with the engine running, or engine oft and electrics on only?

it does not work when engine is running or not. when you switch on the light, both rear lights are working but whenever you press brake pedal..NO brake lights on both rear and tail lights.

Need a bit of help with my Freelander 2 on a 2012 plate. All the threads I can find don't discuss the F2.
Same issue no brake lights at all.
Bulbs ok
Fuse ok
So next step the brake pedal switch.
First question how the heck does it come out ? And how does the wire plug unclip. It looks buried. Can't see how I can remove trim for better access. The air bag is under the steering wheel. Has anyone got any tips ?

To remove the brake light switch on a FL2 then you need to remove the drivers side lower airbag

Note the switch has a locking mechanism that prevents the switch being removed unless the plunger is depressed.

If you disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes before hand and leave it off whilst doing the work then it should be fine

However if you have any doubt then it's best to pay someone who's competent / confident to do the job
