I've put a new engine in my discovery it won't start it's pushing white smoke out the air filter I suspect when I changed the injector pump over I've messed up the timing
I've got no idea how to get it timed right the pulley bolts seemed to only go in one way the pump seems to go round in half revolution turns you know clunk them clunk and that's one rev

Please help

if front cover is on you need a timing pin to line up tdc in flywheel housing, watch position of no1 valves both should be fully closed and insert 9.5 drill bit or pin through inspection cover in the front cover, slacken the 3 bolts on pump flange to realign

Ok ive not sorted it yet ive been reading the rave manual trying to get in to my thick head what im doing wrong
ive lined up the timing mark on the back of the ring gear and stuck a drill bit through the injector pump pulley in to the housing hole

However the penny has just dropped That lrt 12-045 is a wheel to temporarily hold the pump gear in place while the pump is replaced

I didnt use this worst thing is while the pump was out I turned the engine to line up and bolt in the torque converter

The pulley moved while the pump was out but it was easy to get centered to the pump again not like it was acting against the tension of a belt

Have I fooked the engine ????????????

In my defence I thought it ran on an auxiliary belt

did you undo nut on pump or the 3 bolts , sounds like you need to remove front cover and align the marks and fit pump pin

You need to get the crank timing correct before trying to get the pump lined up.

on the edc autos theres a plate on the back face of the bell housing with a small bolt 10mm and a large one. Undo the large one and loosen the small one.

Then get the engine to aprox tdc as described above, insert a spring loaded crank locking tool in the large hole and the slowly rotate the engine by the crank nut you will hear it ping into place and the crank wont move any more.

Then worry about the pump timing.

I have to say wohooooo it's alive I'm like a dog with two cocks

Took the timing cover off today took the timing belt off and lined it all up right and brum brum she lives wicked eh

I really love my disco in an unhealthy way I'm really happy
