200 tdi Squealing. Penny trick?

Sometimes, probably about 80% of the time there's a squealing coming from the engine that sounds like I've got half a dozen budgies in there undergoing torture. I've searched this and found a lot of answers to this prob for the 300 regarding the penny trick but would this work on a 200?

Bugger any ideas or is it just a matter of take the belts off one at a time to find the squeeler?

Yep course it could be the alternator and not the belt

Hope it's not the alternator as it less than a year old.

i had the same with my 300tdi , i found a good squirt of wd40 nsorted it....
